589 the real story. **UPDATED 3/7/11**
First topic message reminder :
G wrote:
In the early morning hours, Rep. Barbara Lee did attempt to attach H.R. 589 to the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Budget Resolution. Yes, this was disallowed (it should be noted that this method is used and has
succeeded without objection in the past).
Does this mean that H.R.589 is dead… NO!
This was but one of many methods that are being used to move H.R.589 along. The bill is still alive and in Committee.
H.R.589 is still gaining support, and it is imperative that you continue to focus your efforts on those House Members that comprise the Rules Committee, The Ways and Means Committee, and Representatives Bohener and
Cantor. It goes without saying that you should continue to reach out to your House Representatives.
I have again been asked to pass along the message that your appreciation for those in support of
H.R. 589 is recognized, but that there is no need to call and thank those already on board. It is preferred that you focus your attention and efforts upon those who are net yet supporting this bill.
Rep. Lee and others in the House are still fighting hard to legislate H.R. 589 and so should each of you.
DO NOT become discouraged based upon rumor, opinion, or the words of individuals who do not have direct dialogue with those directly involved in this process.
For additional and or updated information, please visit the American 99ers Union website.
Update from the 99ers Union, February 25, 2011:
H.R. 589 now has 69 Co-Sponsors and the list is growing.

Hmm Reid and Bill Nelson <FL> fax #s are returning a "no answer" error.
Ironic eh, a politician with "no answers" somehow it seems fitting.
BUT I will keep faxing all the same. :-)

They are probably trying to shut everyone out. "Hear no evil, see no evil". I wish there was a way to show them we are real people, and there are millions of us. Unfortunately, we are broke and have no way to organize rallies in Washington that would draw media attention.
We need the help of the unions and other lobbyists in Washington if we want to make our voices heard. They have us backed into a corner and they know it!

I think the new catch-all phrase for Republicans is: "the issue is in committee."

Our catch phrase is "We want it OUT of commitee and on the Floor of the House NOW".
Won't work to well for us, they know we don't have the means to organized in mass like the unions did.

Sorry...but we are so done. I cannot help thinking this way. I cannot get anywhere with getting a job. They won't even consider me, even though I have had a few temp jobs here and there, since I was laid off in Dec. of '08 We have melded with the homeless population now. I have to start on my taxes and pay Uncle Sam from my meager unemployment monies. How ridiculous is that???

Ellen, we never give up. We all get depressed and feel like throwing in the towel many times, but we pick ourselves up and make our voices louder.

I contacted my 26th republican district rep. David Dreier...and as usual his aids say that he would think of supporting it it it made it to the floor...BUT...it's not going to so, so why am I asking for support of a bill that doesn't exhist. They will happy to tell me that it is only a bill once it makes it to the floor...then went on to tell me it is called a purposed bill....yada ...yada..bull dooky.
I then called both my democrat CA. senators Boxer & Feinstein and got the same old rehtoric as usual too.... They support any unemployment measues to help us but there is no way anything can be done with the republicans blocking everything and if it did pass it wouldn't make it throught the house. I am a democrat and I am starting to think they just don't even bother to fight for us anymore...they just say Oh...NOthing can be done with all the non bipartisanship going on.
UUUUUUUUugggggghhhh.....But rest assued we will come up with money to help out Lybia and New Zeland I'm sure. Everybody in the world can get help from the U.S. Government except the LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED!!!!!
P.S. that was not meant to sound insensetive to the people of New Zealand.

lennon5 wrote:Ok,let's say we get the 14 weeks. I still cannot find a job and Ill be in the same boat as I am now. 14 weeks later. But I've been with a check for now 15 weeks.
14 weeks does seem meager at this point..With most people not able to find a job in years..And no income for months and months and months..But if they can't get 14 weeks passed you would think a 5th tier surely wouldn't pass..So hopefully they can get this passed then work on a tier 5 or a bill that would give businesses a incentive to higher the long term U.E..Also they need to do something about job creation..Most likely though if this passes it will take longer than 14 weeks to get something else passed with all the vacations they take and the games they play with us when its in a committee and makes it to the floor...When I write my reps senators etc..I put in if they don't like H.R589 why dont they try to make a tier 5 bill that would help a lot of people a lot longer than H.R589 with the job market being this bad and not looking to get better any time soon..I know it's far fetched but why not put it in there heads I figure..But Any way 14 weeks is a starting point and better than 0...

I wonder if there is some way that we could use the internet i.e a social networking site..To show them how many of us there are and that we mean business..IDK like when they discuss it in the committee one of our advocates is there with a computer and we all get on a certain site that day and post something..Then they show them..Something like that because you are right most of us don't have the means to make it to a certain place on a certain day in person..Other than that it would have to be something like every city does something on the same day..IDK just thinking out loud..
There has to be some way to do something besides just e-mailing and faxing..It does not have the same effect...But still keep up the e-mails,phone calls and faxing..

Someone needs to contact Greg Rosen. I heard on the UWAG site that he is taking care of personal biz right now.
