589 the real story. **UPDATED 3/7/11**
First topic message reminder :
G wrote:
In the early morning hours, Rep. Barbara Lee did attempt to attach H.R. 589 to the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Budget Resolution. Yes, this was disallowed (it should be noted that this method is used and has
succeeded without objection in the past).
Does this mean that H.R.589 is dead… NO!
This was but one of many methods that are being used to move H.R.589 along. The bill is still alive and in Committee.
H.R.589 is still gaining support, and it is imperative that you continue to focus your efforts on those House Members that comprise the Rules Committee, The Ways and Means Committee, and Representatives Bohener and
Cantor. It goes without saying that you should continue to reach out to your House Representatives.
I have again been asked to pass along the message that your appreciation for those in support of
H.R. 589 is recognized, but that there is no need to call and thank those already on board. It is preferred that you focus your attention and efforts upon those who are net yet supporting this bill.
Rep. Lee and others in the House are still fighting hard to legislate H.R. 589 and so should each of you.
DO NOT become discouraged based upon rumor, opinion, or the words of individuals who do not have direct dialogue with those directly involved in this process.
For additional and or updated information, please visit the American 99ers Union website.
Update from the 99ers Union, February 25, 2011:
H.R. 589 now has 69 Co-Sponsors and the list is growing.

Of course not. Rumor is there are some willing to back it, but they are waiting until the first one is brave enough to step forward.
What is the problem with these folks. Last year it was "Pay for it" now its paid for and their excuse is what now???
How hypocritical, the jobs arent back, unemployment is WAY too high, and were about to see a boat load more 99ers...
nutty, do you know about UWAG and the 99er's Union? All this info is there.

I am all for H.R. 589 even making it out of committee and onto the floor, but I was not aware it was paid for?????
I didn't think it was paid for...but heck, even if it was paid for, to the republicans It wouldn't be paid for in the right way to them and they would still poo-poo it.

Didnt Greg Rosen say that moneys were to be used from the transportation budget in one of his updates?

If nothing is done on 589 this three week period and before next break then kiss this bill goodbye! Meaning if Lee doesn't make an attempt to get it out of committee. I saw a thread where she has introduced 140 bills and 136 died in committee! 1 got passed! So Hum! Its still in committee!

I don't know what thread you are referring to. There is nothing like that posted here.

Many, many bills go to committee and die there...dont read too much into that.
4 more reps cosponsored during the break which means that they are still actively working on this bill. Rep judy cho just cosponsored as well, which brings it to 70.

According To Thomas.gov...
FWIW, the number of cosponsors is 67 (as of this writing) according to Thomas.gov. I have a nagging feeling that this thing is going to languish in committee. I can't see the 99ers unfriendly house letting this go forward at all.
We're not getting much help on this issue... How depressing (as usual).

Thomas Law and Open Congress have not updated. From the Crew of 42 and Rep. Lee's office, there are 70. Two from NJ and one from MA.

The amount that matters to me is the zero (0), and that is how many things she has sponsored/co-sponsored that have passed.

Did you look at the list of co-sponsors? Some "seasoned" Congressman are backers. McDermott, Frank, etc....

I did not.
Still, at this point I am just really feeling like our fight is in vain. It seemed as though for awhile there we were picking up steam, starting to get heard, obama pulled out his crap compromise and we are once again left behind.

The Budget Crisis is holding everything up right now. The Dems agreed to a two week extension so they could negotiate, IMO, they should have let it shut down. Maybe that would have been a better tactic to make them work a little faster!

I am right with you! Until someone shows me something directly positive leading to positive outlook. And thanks for posting Lee's record. Not pretty! If someone in congress keeps introducing bills and the majority of time they are killed and not make it out of committee then she looses credibility with members. And this could be another case! I have an open mind however and if anyone has some positives that reflect it may be coming out of committee, please show me any good news!
