589 the real story. **UPDATED 3/7/11**
First topic message reminder :

In the early morning hours, Rep. Barbara Lee did attempt to attach H.R. 589 to the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Budget Resolution. Yes, this was disallowed (it should be noted that this method is used and has
succeeded without objection in the past).
Does this mean that H.R.589 is dead… NO!
This was but one of many methods that are being used to move H.R.589 along. The bill is still alive and in Committee.
H.R.589 is still gaining support, and it is imperative that you continue to focus your efforts on those House Members that comprise the Rules Committee, The Ways and Means Committee, and Representatives Bohener and
Cantor. It goes without saying that you should continue to reach out to your House Representatives.
I have again been asked to pass along the message that your appreciation for those in support of
H.R. 589 is recognized, but that there is no need to call and thank those already on board. It is preferred that you focus your attention and efforts upon those who are net yet supporting this bill.
Rep. Lee and others in the House are still fighting hard to legislate H.R. 589 and so should each of you.
DO NOT become discouraged based upon rumor, opinion, or the words of individuals who do not have direct dialogue with those directly involved in this process.
For additional and or updated information, please visit the American 99ers Union website.
Update from the 99ers Union, February 25, 2011:
H.R. 589 now has 69 Co-Sponsors and the list is growing.

OMG!!!!
I am feeling like it doesn't matter if she & the bill have 600 co sponsors, it doesn't seem to be gaining any ground.
What would really be news is if they could actually get some REPUBLICAN co sponsors. To me having 1 rep. co sponsor means a lot more than 70 no repub. sponsors.
It's just not going to happen if some of the opposition doesn't join.

They will. As soon as the first one steps forward, more will follow. It is rumored that there are Republicans willing to back the bill, imo, nobody wants to be first.

I am with Superstevies on this one. There are 70 co-sponsers now yet how many is enough? Nobody is talking about this bill and I get the feeling this is another "Stabenow".
I have faxed, emailed, called so many times I seriously think I am on their crazy person list! I dont feel this is working because I dont think besides the few people here there are enough people doing this to make any difference.
It is too quiet now about this bill. There is no info. So is this really working or am I looking like an idiot doing all this calling, faxing, emailing?
I am like all of you, I want and NEED this badly but I dont know, I just dont know if this is working.

The delay and extension for the Federal Budget negotiations has pushed everything else aside in Congress right now. Change the course of your advocacy and tell them to get this done and move on so they can focus on the critical issues in America today, JOB CREATION and helping the unemployed!

Well good luck guys on this. I think this bill is a no go. There comes a point when you have to be realistic. I am a faxing, emailing, phone calling fool. I have been here fighting for almost 2 years now. I come on this site and the other unemployed friends site and there are like only 4 or 5 of you posting all the time and that is it! Are these all the people that are fighting?
That is all I hear, keep faxing, calling etc. If anyone questions this or is not upbeat or has serious questions they are ignored or called a troll or banned. It is like you dont want to talk at all about the problems with this bill.

Any suggestions you have to offer, Kathy, are more than welcome. I have been fighting this battle for three years and I cannot afford to give up.
I made my suggestion above. Contact Congress (both Chambers) and tell them to get these budget negotiations over with and start working on the issues that are top priority for the American people right now.

ET...I have contacted my GOP rep. That is worthless cause. His name is David Dreier 26th dist. He is against unemployment and they way he snakes around the issue over and over is by saying that he would think about it if it were to ever make it to the floor.
However, his staffers are quick to say that they do not recognize H.R.589 as a bill because it is still in committee and so there for it is considered a pending bill, and in return they do not consider pending bills at all they have too much on their plates to speculate on what could be????/
Chicken Poop was to skate around the issue. So I only hav 1 rep. for my district and it's that weezle. I did call both my democratic senators Boxer & Feinstein and I get the same ol from them too. They are for any unemployment tiers being added but they have not a chance with the opposition. That is what their reps tell me.
So I guess I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. IN OTHER WORDS SCREWED!!!
But I will not give up. They are going to hate me, because I call 6 times a day and fax and email too.

The problem remains and not anyone is seeing it is, the bill is not paid for. There is no funding for the bill which tells the Gop who is trying to cut down on spending that it will add to the deficet. Without funding the bill will die. Why these people who write the bills can't fudn them is beyond me.
If you call or write or fax ad nauseum your senators and other reps tell them to fund the bill.

I have been emailing, faxing and calling for sometime now - I will post every now and then, but I don't post everyday that I contacted the Reps. When I get a bit of info from a staffer I post it, mostly what I get is "I don't know or I'll pass the info along" I am really pissed at my state rep. DeLauro - she says she is for the unemployed but yet has not signed on as a co-sponsor - but I call everyday - trying to shame her into signing.Kathy wrote:Well good luck guys on this. I try to stay optimistic because if I don't I will spiral downhill. It is very frustrating when you feel that you are not making an impact, but then 1 or 2 more sign on as co-sponsors. The Republicans are playing a game in Congress to undermine America, starting to plan for re-election already. They are talking out of both sides of their mouths, but I truly believe the American people are starting to see thru them. I applaud the Democrats in Wisconsin for taking a stand, I stand behind the protesters in Wisconsin, and I believe the American people are starting to see thru the government.
It is your right to believe whatever you want about this bill, but there are thousands who are pushing for it to be brought onto the floor. I still say Never Give Up.

Re: 589 the real story. **UPDATED 3/7/11**
How much news do people expect to here about H.R.589 when the reps were not there this past week..And have only been back for 2 days..Plus as DIRI has said they extending the budget cut negotiations for 2 weeks..
The U.S. Senate approved a two-week budget extension on Wednesday that will allow congressional Republicans and Democrats additional time to negotiate how big budget cuts should be until September 30, the end of the 2011 fiscal year.
Read more: http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/118041/20110302/senate-shutdown-averted-budget-extension-senate.htm#ixzz1FU3pSTXR
So that is the most pressing issue to them as of the past couple weeks..Also as I said b4 do you really remember hearing much news about any of the previous U.E bills when they where in the ways & means committee??Plus there hasn't been much media attention on the unemployed or 99ers..So to expect them to give us media coverage because there is a bill in committee is crazy...As for rep lee's numbers on how many bills she has sponsored/co sponsored and that became law..I haven't checked into it but what are some of the other current rep's #'s..No one has posted any other rep's #'s to give us something to go off of ..Numerous bills die so I imagine no rep's #'s r flawless...So keep
..Burn your name into there minds..Who cares if you make there crazy list..We r all a little nuts at times any way..

IMO, if the bill was dead and not going anywhere, then there would be no one co sponsoring...some just co sponsored during the break a week ago. that tells me that they are still pushing for this and that it IS still active. we have come too far to give up.

Yeah...and there was this whole rig a ma roll about the government being shut down, because they were not on track with the budget. As of yesterday, they are back in business...I think this has caused a backlog on bills.
Mentioned on another site a job proposal bill was passed. Don't know the details..anyone?
