Does this mean that H.R.589 is dead… NO!

This was but one of many methods that are being used to move H.R.589 along. The bill is still alive and in Committee.

H.R.589 is still gaining support, and it is imperative that you continue to focus your efforts on those House Members that comprise the Rules Committee, The Ways and Means Committee, and Representatives Bohener and
Cantor. It goes without saying that you should continue to reach out to your House Representatives.

I have again been asked to pass along the message that your appreciation for those in support of
H.R. 589 is recognized, but that there is no need to call and thank those already on board. It is preferred that you focus your attention and efforts upon those who are net yet supporting this bill.

Rep. Lee and others in the House are still fighting hard to legislate H.R. 589 and so should each of you.

1208, the negativity that is not tolerated here is attacking other members or name-calling because of their political or personal beliefs. Of course we can vent at our politicians - we have every right to. I am really angry and disappointed at my Rep. He represents the middle-class and low-wage part of the state, where all the jobs disappeared from. The other Rep. from RI who represents Newport and the surrounding areas know for being very wealthy did co-sponsor. I even worked on my Reps. campaign, making phone calls last fall. He won by the skin of his teeth, now that he is in Washington, he is ignoring us.

That is not "negativity" on my part - it is the truth. Evil or Very Mad

Update from the 99er's Union
February 21, 2011

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed legislation to cut $60-billion plus from hundreds of federal programs early Saturday. The measure faces a great deal of oppositon in the Democratic-controlled Senate. In addition to contacting those House members already provided, we suggest contacting your Senators and requesting that any compromises made on this legislation, must include the passage of H.R.589.

Contact your Senators!

***Update March 7, 2011:***
There are now 73 co-sponsors for HR 589!

Many members have commented on Rep. Lee's track record on past legislative proposals. Please do not take that into consideration. This is now. Her strategy has a reason that we are not privy to. Take a look at the number of co-sponsors and who they are. They have a voice also in getting this bill passed.

Please remain positive and focus on contacting members of Congress who have not signed on to HR 589. The more co-sponsors, the better!

The Speaker, as well as all the co-sponsors can put pressure on the Committee Chair, but can do nothing else. The committee it is assigned to decides whether or not to address it, have a hearing or send it to the Floor.

Here is some info that will help you understand the process.

From Gregg Rosen, who has been in contact with Rep Lee and the other co-sponsors. Don't forget there is one big roadblock to any new legislation - the fight over the Federal budget!

2/17/2011 1:47 PM EST:
In the early morning hours, Rep. Barbara Lee did attempt to attach H.R.589 to the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Budget Resolution. This was disallowed (it should be noted that this method is commonly used and has succeeded without objection in past sessions of Congress).

Does this mean that H.R.589 is dead... NO!

This was but one of many methods that were considered and are being used to move H.R.589 along. The bill is still alive in Committee.

H.R.589 is still building support, and it is imperative that you continue to focus your efforts on those House Members that comprise The Rules Committee, The Ways and Means Committee, and Representatives Bohener and Cantor. It goes without saying that you should continue to reach out to your House Representative.

We have again been asked to pass along the message that your appreciation for those already in support of H.R.589 is recognized, but there is no need to call and thank those already on board. It is preferred that you focus your attention and efforts upon those not yet in support of the bill.

1208 I can understand your frustration. We are all frustrated, but keep in mind these things dont happen over night.
As you are aware G from the 99ers union is in contact with Lee on this Bill. Considering that congress was on vacation and then was taking up the Fed Budget things had got put on the back burner.
There is a process in which these things happen. Please read the link Desp provided to get a better understanding of how Bills get out of committee.
Negative rants about it serve no real purpose and only discourage those who have hope and faith.
