Up all NIGHT WORRIED! Empty Up all NIGHT WORRIED!

Post by AnotherMiddleAgedMan Wed Sep 19, 2012 10:18 am

I was up all night worried about who I am and where I am going. I'm a 52 year old man who is unemployed for close TO 4 YEARS!!!! My wife works. We have a young daughter.
NO ONE WILL HIRE ME! When I do get a job NO ONE WILL KEEP ME! I am defeated. I PRAY, AND I PRAY. When I feel a prayer gets answered I lose the blessing.
It's been this way my entire life. I am not sure if I should pray for myself about employment anymore. I do believe in prayer. But maybe I am just supposed to WORK my way to success. And there is nothing wrong with that, right? I KNOW SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE IT MUCH WORSE THAN I DO. I AM INDEED BLESSED. But I can't help but feel defeated and bad about myself.

I am pretty much in the same boat, except i am older that that.....and yes the thought of being re-hired and such every 2-3 months for short contracts for the next 10 years is
NOT pleasant.....

live as cheaply as possible, save ALL cash

Sorry to hear of the struggles. Unfortunately yiur story is quite common. I know that's not exactly comforting but it is the truth. Be thankful for your family being there for you. Some have even lost that in this mess we are in.

Thanks. But it's not even the economy. I have failed at every job I never had.

AnotherMiddleAgedMan I read your post and I have been in a similar situation. I still have a hard time with feeling defeated.

I wish I had some magical solution and some new advice, but I suspect you have tried it all.

Please know that even when people give a short response they ARE listening and feeling for you. I find I really do not know what to say and sometimes fear I might get very negative.

I will share that I was to the point where I was almost sure noone would ever hire me after over 3 years without a full-time real job. But, it did come to be. The job is good and I am so blessed. In my opininon prayer is always a good thing. I do not know the specifics but if I am reading between the lines correctly you do have a wife who understands and you are getting by I was impressed by you pointing out that you realize you have blessings even while you are in the struggle of getting a job.

Please post if you feel you would like to share and hang in there.

I sincerely believe that we are able to get through this and things will work out.

I have a job again, but now other issues are in the forefront so I guess there are always challenges.

Take Care

AnotherMiddleAgedMan, I'm in the same boat....only without a wife or kid....work short-term contract positions without ever being kept....then having to fight for unemployment benefits on an open claim after being let go from the contract job.....it sucks!

I do still retain a part-time job, but the low pay sucks.

AMAM, There are very well known entrepreneurs who admit they could never work for someone else. Very possibly you are one of these individuals!

AnotherMiddleAgedMan, what I am most concerned about is your self image. You write that you feel defeated and bad about yourself. View yourself as a virtual dynamo, a powerhouse of potential  and talent. Sell yourself as a towering reservoir of untapped energy.  You can't expect someone to like you if you don't like yourself.

Avoid the temptation of polarizing our society into the haves and have-nots, the 1% and the 99%. That is self defeating, because you will always place your self on the side with the disadvantage. Don't wait for the government to do something.

Don't blame politicians, Wall Street,  corporations, or  bankers for any misfortune you may have. Instead, use their schemes to your advantage.
Research about how money works, and start a small investment program. Acquire investment capital by working odd jobs in your community under the table.

Continue by doing volunteer activities in your community. Connect with civic leagues and churches to see where you can help others in need. While you are not working, make sure you are exercising and staying fit. Don't wait for the job to come to you, you go to it.

If they are not meant to be addressed, then why leave them up? And yes, I do answer old posts.
