589 the real story. **UPDATED 3/7/11**
First topic message reminder :

In the early morning hours, Rep. Barbara Lee did attempt to attach H.R. 589 to the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Budget Resolution. Yes, this was disallowed (it should be noted that this method is used and has
succeeded without objection in the past).
Does this mean that H.R.589 is dead… NO!
This was but one of many methods that are being used to move H.R.589 along. The bill is still alive and in Committee.
H.R.589 is still gaining support, and it is imperative that you continue to focus your efforts on those House Members that comprise the Rules Committee, The Ways and Means Committee, and Representatives Bohener and
Cantor. It goes without saying that you should continue to reach out to your House Representatives.
I have again been asked to pass along the message that your appreciation for those in support of
H.R. 589 is recognized, but that there is no need to call and thank those already on board. It is preferred that you focus your attention and efforts upon those who are net yet supporting this bill.
Rep. Lee and others in the House are still fighting hard to legislate H.R. 589 and so should each of you.
DO NOT become discouraged based upon rumor, opinion, or the words of individuals who do not have direct dialogue with those directly involved in this process.
For additional and or updated information, please visit the American 99ers Union website.
Update from the 99ers Union, February 25, 2011:
H.R. 589 now has 69 Co-Sponsors and the list is growing.

Re: 589 the real story. **UPDATED 3/7/11**
I heard they are going to extend the Federal Budget for two weeks. They have to give the Senate time to debate it. Who knows what is going to happen?
The longer they wait the more exhaustees/99ers will get hurt. It has been a year now when many including I ran out. Do they care? HELL NO!!!
Until we find something to cost them money, they will not listen. Stop buying anything. Everyone refuse to pay our mortgages, but hold it in a separate fund, like when you have problem with a landlord. Do this for everything. Send this country into a worse credit problems. Then the banks might do something. They can't operate if everyone stops paying. Give them to March 1 or some date after that. This might be far fetch. We should have done this months ago. If we wait then many will be eliminate into house foreclosure one by one as it has been going.. Does anyone have a better idea? If too many are kicked out at one time then march with our pitchforks or baseball bats. It is time to do this anyways.
We have to threaten them in order to get action. Anything seams to be just passing the buck and playing games with us. We should not play games any more, this is serious stuff. Many of the rich are just babies. Just have to push back or do you really want to starve?
That is not to offend anyone, just my opinion.

H.R. 589 now has 69 Co-Sponsors and the list is growing.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed legislation to cut $60-billion plus from hundreds of federal programs early Saturday. The measure faces a great deal of oppositon in the Democratic-controlled Senate. In addition to contacting those House members already provided, we suggest contacting your Senators and requesting that any compromises made on this legislation, must include the passage of H.R.589.

This is just my opinion, but if this were to die, I think the original sponsors of this bill would make sure that everyone knew who killed it. They are not a group to go down quitely and I mean that respectfully. In the past they have shown compassion for our cause and when the tax bill was approved, they made it know we were not covered and how callous they felt it was and then after the holidays and they were back in session they introduced HR 589. Again, just my opinion, but I am going on their past history.

Agree, MaryKay. Just the fact that two more co-sponsors were added while they were on break, during a week of threatened government shut downs PROVES this group will not give up on this.
We have to follow their example and stand united in solidarity with ALL the unemployed and underemployed across America. Our numbers are growing by the day, and if we ALL speak out together, we will be a force to be reckoned with!

Sorry, another opinion, rumors and blog opinions have been wrong many times, and as hard as it is, don't bite. There are haters out there and will write whatever they "think". Also, Gregg would not lie or try to give us false hope. Nothing is carved in stone, we need to fight along with the sponsors and co-sponsors of HR589, with the American 99ers Union and fight individually to keep this in the mainstream. (what happened to the you gotta believe emot?) Just curious

For sure, Gregg won't steer us wrong. Hopefully during the last week Sen. Lee will have developed a strategy to slam/dunk this matter.
And as any slam/dunker would suggest, revealing the plan beforehand would be REAL wrong.
Personally any queries about Sen. Lee being "quiet" are fruitless. Let's just hope for the relief and the best for us all.

QUESTION: How many co-sponsers does it take for a bill to be seen as one with strong support? 69 is alot, but is it alot by congresses' standard?

There is no requirement for the number of co-sponsors for legislation, some bill don't have any. The strategy of Rep. Lee is to gain as many co-sponsors as possible to show the Speaker and Leader how much support there is for it. The more co-sponsors, the better our chances of it coming to the floor in the near future.
You are right that 69 is a lot of co-sponsors. Hopefully, the Speaker will see the millions of people these sponsor represent and will not be ignored.
Representative Lee knows what she is doing!

Yup this is the insanity cycle at its best. They ask us to wait till things get better but all they worry about to getting elected.
By the way this bill WILL NOT BE RETRO!
