Consider the following new data:

  • *The four week average for NEW unemployment insurance applications has jumped to 408,500.

*More than half of all Americans surveyed told a Gallup poll that the U.S. economy is in a recession or a depression.

*U.S. Gross Domestic Product slowed sharply in the first quarter of this year to a dismal 1.8 percent annual rate.

*RealtyTrac has now forecast that 1.2 million more homes will be lost to foreclosure in 2011.

*McDonald's April 19th "hiring day", brought with it "more than one million applications". From this number only 62,000 were hired.

Conclusion:

Historically speaking, we should be much further along on the road to "recovery". With the House of Representatives preparing to return to work, it is clear that we as a Country, are not yet in a position to get America's longest-term unemployed back to work, thereby bringing stability to the American worker as well the economy.

It is the responsibility of all members and supporters of the American 99ers Union, to respectfully request the immediate passage of H.R.589 without further delay. Please TAKE ACTION

-End Update-

**Just a note from the Administrators and Moderators at UF2, the "Call to Action" request from the American 99er's Union continues.

Please remember this organization, that we are a member of, encourages EVERYONE to participate in continued emailing, faxing, calling and tweeting members of Congress and the House Ways & Means Committee. The Union was instrumental in bringing the plight of the 99ers to the public spotlight and is in frequent contact with Rep. Lee's office.

Although some may think this strategy isn't working and Rep. Lee isn't doing enough, Unemployed-Friends2 stands by the American 99ers Union and urges all of our members to keep the pressure on the Representatives and Committees.

Representative Lee has requested our support, and UF2 will honor that request. It is up to each and everyone of you to help get this bill passed.

The choice is yours.

Sit back and do nothing or continue the fight.

We are NOT putting any pressure on members to take action, we are just relaying a message from the American 99er Union and Rep. Barbara Lee.

We hope you will join us in continuing to support their efforts.

I don't know if all have figured this out yet, despite her request for our help. Speaker Boehner asked that she work with the Ways & Means Committee. I, personally, take that as a positive step.

I think the fact the WSJ of all papers is reporting on 99ers is also a positive thing for us.

Just saw this ~ Twitter set a record last night.

Can we do this for the 99ers and HR 589? Time is running out - they will be on break again May 16!

Let's break another record!
