smell the coffee beans. If you can afford them! Its a DOA bill... They try to make us feel good with the co sponsors bull.. Disagree or don't like my comments! Show me positive action or activity stating the likelyhood of the bill even making it to the floor !!! Ball is in your court!

Re: 3/15/11 **Update on HR 589** 75 Co-Sponsors!!!
Be aware that I'm not actually depressed. It was simply an off-the-cuff remark about the sorry state of affairs our country is in and how it's being ran. I'm just figuratively depressed because Republicans don't seem to be taking this as a serious issue. They're so dead-set against helping the American People.
I knew this was going to happen back when they were fighting over that Tax Extenders bill. The minute they passed it I knew that Republicans would fight tooth and nail against any unemployment extension, even if it were paid for with offsets. In order to get it passed, they are going to demand even deeper spending cuts or object if the offsets aren't offsets that they like.
My guess is that they'll demand that offsets for H.R. 589 be paid for with offsets from Planned Parenthood or offsets using funding for the health care bill. I'm just surprised that nobody else has realized this just yet.

Don't think have to wait until elections. With more and more people with no income, there will be less spending leading to less tax revenues for states and no income taxes for the Feds. It will all come crashing down before November 2012.

Yeah I think you are right Kemcha. The Repubs are probably going to do this now with every bill. They are going to want something in return for passage. They should be passing it because it is the right thing to do and it is for the good of the people. I truly think they have forgotten about the people, except when election time comes, then we are important again.

What are you talking about? They're already stretching it out now. Why do you think that Republicans are pushing for continuous CR bills? Because they're chipping away at the massive spending that they believe should not fund social programs.
Republicans want to restore full funding to the military and that's been their only concern.
I'm seeing the whole thing as a delay tactic. Congress will spend less than half the year in session and all they have to do is keep on delaying the full budget and keep passing these smaller CR's. This way, it allows them to not address the unemployment extension for the 99ers.
Then, they make all of their promises about job creation when the 2012 season gets underway. To tell you the truth, I doubt I'll vote in 2012. Our government, that is supposed to be looking out for our interests, is too busy worrying about their own interests. Jobs getting sent overseas, Republicans wanting to eliminate every social program and cut off Social Security, Planned Parenthood and many programs that are vital to the survival of our culture.
I'm just a disillusioned registered voter.

Maybe the Parliamentary rule of “No Confidence” and demand a new vote is not a bad way of governing then maybe they would hear the people…. I am an American and believe in the constitution but sometimes I get so frustrated

That is so true Desperate. Every month more people fall off of benefits. They have no money, they dont pay rent or mortgages, cant buy food, go shopping or buy cars, cant pay bills. This will affect companies and more of them will be closing down.
Just think, if Congress had done the right thing and passed more tiers people would be putting that money right back into the economy and keeping it afloat until things get better. That seems like a good idea to me.

All the co-sponsors are good but we need a republican..Still say we find the republican rep with the highest U.E rate in his district and start working on him with the calls e-mails faxes tweets...I don't get if there is no news on H.R.589 or we don't here anything from Rep.Lee Its a dead bill..Also if there is news and Lee is trying to do something its dead????I'll leave the thinking up to you guys and i will keep e-mailing as many politicians as i can each day..Seems it is having some sort of effect with all the different things we r seeing going on in the past week..Think of it as if you do not do it no one will..Trust me i have been e-mailing since last year and its frustrating but some one has to do it..Until we find a better way to do things and some one gets us organized for a march or some thing with free buses to get us where we need to go..IDK what else to do for know so the e-mails keep getting sent..The more attention H.R.589 gets the better..The more media attention the 99ers get the better..Do you not think they want you to give up???? keep it up

That has made sense for a long time DesperateInRI, and the gov't does not always do what makes sense. Often, it does what benefits itself. I don't know if we can use logic for additional weeks, especially with the Tea Party fruitcakes who have some good ideas but are cutting too much too soon. Too many on the hill are not seeing the forest through the trees.

Make an appointment to visit your Representative or one of their caseworkers next week. Let them see our faces. Bring your job search records, any rejection letters you have received, your bills and foreclosure or eviction notices. Bring your children. Show them we are real and we are suffering.
Next week is their "District Work Period". These weeks were added to the Congressional calendar by the Speaker of the House to give the Reps an opportunity to be visible in the districts they represent. Take advantage of that. Don't let this opportunity slip by! Call today!

I don't find it negative. Best to be prepared either way. What if we all got our hopes up and it didn't pass, what then? Its best to see two sides and hope for the best than to expect the bill to pass and become greatly disappointed.
My philosophy is, I hope it passes but I'm not waiting on baited breath.

We simply need Republicans to sign on to the bill ... we need to get everyone to bombard Republicans until they are forced to shut down their fax machines. Fax one letter after another ... just crash their fax machines.

Re: 3/15/11 **Update on HR 589** 75 Co-Sponsors!!!
I'm with you, tiffg2011, and all of the others who are able to choose positivity. I know there are some who feel that "keeping it real" will prepare them for the worst, and I acknowledge and understand their thinking. I think many of us are prepared for the worst, but it doesn't prevent me from focusing on and working towards the best. I don't focus on the negative. It's not healthy for me, and it doesn't move us forward.
However, I'm not sure what purpose it serves for those who don't believe in the bill's passage to KEEP focusing on the negative, and to remind us REPEATEDLY that they they think the bill is dead. It would be nice to not have a daily litany of this. It may serve as discouragement for new members.
I think this forum was designed to be a place of information, support and encouragement.
This is all I'll say, because I'd rather focus my time on advocating for the bill. I merely wanted to thank you for reminding us of the spirit of this forum, tiffg.

I dont think people are being negative, they are being realistic. If everyone only posted be positive, be happy all the time it would get a little creepy like a stepford wife or something.
I think it is good to talk about all issues and sometimes say when you are frustrated or down or even worried about the bill passing. We are all human and have emotional days good and bad. Nobody has been mean, just posted how they felt and they have been still supporting the cause.

Re: 3/15/11 **Update on HR 589** 75 Co-Sponsors!!!
But to post negative/"realistic comments no matter what is happening I do not get...1st it was there is nothing new on the H.R.589 front except co-sponsors being added..Then rep Lee wrote the speaker of the house to get a meeting and then its something else..We all remember what happened with Stabenbows bill so we know what can happen but as long as some one will draft a bill for us its a good thing and it gets us more attention media or other wise..until we figure out how to get people in one place so they can see our numbers and faces..So keep bugging the politicians with faxes e-mails calls and tweets..As other have said we really need to contact the republicans non-stop..Does any one know which republican rep has the highest U.E rate in america for there district..We should flood them 1st I think..

Congress.org shows the co-sponsors in a scroll so it is hard to compare. It took a few days for OpenCongress and Thomas to update when there was 74. Hopefully they will do so soon.
