I get really concerned as well when asked for a social security number on a job application online. Even from a legit company that makes me nervous as hell. Also, I recently got an email on careerbuilder for a stay at home job for like 19 an hour they wanted my bank info during the application process. I tried to find these people online and could find nothing on them. I did not respond I had a bad feeling about it. It is bad enough we are out of work we now have to worry that we will be scammed. It is so frustrating to me.

Yes, the scam artists are making a good living off of us. I'm also leery of the agencies. Make you drive to see them, and there really isn't a job to send you out to. But, the ads that don't post their websites for you to review are usually a scam.

I also hate giving my social security number on applications. I did a couple of times but I think in the future I'll either leave it blank or write something like, "Willing to provide upon hire" or something like that. You don't know what hands that application will cross or even if they're being shredded properly if you're not hired.

Scammers are the scum of the earth; they waste the time of job hunters, not to mention creating false hopes. I have filled out an application for several jobs, sure I'm overqualified again. I may just start leaving off my education and any jobs that allude to it since obviously its worse than having a criminal record thesedays.

I apply to $10 hr landscaping jobs. But no call back. I guess the boss doesn't want a white male over a mexican. It's ironic mexicans turned landscape jobs from $20 hr to $10 hr. And now I want a mexican's job.
We gave them the crap jobs, we complained they take our jobs, now we want their jobs.

I don't give my SS# or drivers lic. # until the interview gets serious. I just tell them that with all the scams out there I have to be carefull.

I knew a landscape contractor who told me that his guys would leave him if someone offerred them five cents over the wage he paid them, and that was 9.00 per hour. Guess the hispanics knew they were needed, but oh that was before this economy.

That is why I can't even get a landscape job, because the first real job that comes he thinks I will leave. And besides let's get real, if you had a landscape comp. who would you hire a 38 yr old white man ofr a 28 yr old mexican.

Applied via Craigslist for the local NO FEAR store. I'm a bit worried about the "appearance code", which is not defined, as I've got long hair and a beard. Strange a skate/surf type retailer would even worry...

Yeah, not worried so much, since I have no tattoos or piercings or anything. Their music is loud but right up my alley, and certainly do not really look like I'm pushing 40. Heck, last year I was out with family in LA, went to a casino, and was carded! She was shocked when she saw my DOB

This week I applied to a new sub shop and applied at Dunkin Donuts AGAIN. I also applied for a job doing drive by inspections.
My husband applied for a job as a trash collector and also applied to a lawn and garden/ landscaping business for a labor position.
not much else around.

It seems like I apply to Dunkin Donuts everyday through SnagAJob.com! There are 3 locations in my immediate area that always have job openings according to that job site.
I posted an article here yesterday on how to dummy down your resume, so I tried that tactic today. Took off my education and changed former job titles. We'll see what happens now!

Re: UF2's job prospect thread. Share your stories!
I have just begun my own job search a month or so ago after last two years with hubby's. He and I were slooow to accept his 'forced retirement' to SS.
Good news: I had two interviews in first month! (One was group ??
Bad news: No second interviews...
Different perspective on my own search! lol I could accept no offers with his background and experience due to emp thinking he wouldn't be happy with sooo much less, etc. But I'm just looking for something, anything, p/t or whatever?? Think I'm in store for a whole new UNDERSTANDING "Up close & personal" of our job crisis!

Going to drop off resume this a.m. Send me some good vibes!
Otherwise, got one rej e-mail from 3 apps last week. Is it better when you never hear back or get the e-mail 'filled position with someone who was better fit'? (Don't answer that! LOL)
