Seemed to be a popular thread in the last UFF so I think we should continue it here.

Applied for three jobs this week including old company see vent, and have not heard from anyone of them.

Well just finished another phone interview. This one was short so it was less painful. She said she wanted to ask a few questions and it lasted about 15 minutes. She said that my resume was great with a lot of deep experience. It was nice to hear someone appreciate my long 30 yrs of work and made me wonder why others don't have the same impression. Anyway its part-time and only pays $10 an hour but I need whatever funds I can get. I can't ask my friend for another loan.

I also have another phone interview for a job out of state. It doesnt pay that much and I do wonder would it be worthwhile to take a position that doesnt pay all that much when I would have to add extra cost and time to commute? Hard to make these decisions when there are sooooooo few choices and sooooooo many bills.

Well I got what I think is my last rejection from the interviews I did over the last couple of weeks. I was hardly surprised but I am baffled as to what the barrier is. The only obvious answers are age and long term unemployment. Anyway I'm trying to shake off a very non-productive week. The last two days I read postings but didnt apply to anything. Cant believe that i was turned down for a job that paid $170 a week when that is less than my unemployement was. Freaking amazing!!!

Either way at this point I have NOTHING on the front or back burner as far as potential jobs. When will i wake up from this nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applied for a job over the weekend and only heard from them at 11 pm on monday night. I can't afford to get my car inspected and have to borrow a car but didnt' tell them that, they wanted me to come in at 11:30 or noon today. I responded that my car is in the shop--little white lie--and I would have to borrow one or postpone the interview until tomorrow to give me time to arrange transportation. I get a quick response saything she doesn't know if everyone will be in at that time and thanks. How many people have to interview me. I know it was a blow off. Sheesh employers now adays.

Every possible job that I was interviewed for the last couple of weeks rejected me. I have no more scheduled. A real friend came into town & took me out for lunch this weekend and slipped me $100 for groceries. I am grateful but this is a band aid for a major problem. I need $8000 for oral surgery for a problem that has gotten progressively worse since I lost my insurance. I need a job now more than ever. I couldn't have imagined in 2008 that I would still be out of work in 2011 with no signs of it ending. I've exhausted all resources & ideas. I was rejected for a job that was an administrative assistant when I used to have an administrative asst. I've applied for management positions and now I apply for telemarketer, customer service, receptionist & still get emails saying they picked someone else. No matter the job, my qualifications don't match up. After hundreds of resumes, a handful of interviews absolutely nothing. The dental care is there but I can't afford it and my health is at risk. I can't believe that I'm living this way in the USA.

Wow, I applied for a job at Popeyes and had an interview with them a couple weeks ago. I thought it went well. The woman I interviewed with told me they were understaffed and she would get back to me by Friday. She never did. I received a rejection e-mail and then today, WHAT DO YOU KNOW, I see a posting for the SAME JOB I applied to. What the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so pissed, I just am baffled as to why I can't even get a job at Popeyes when all my work history has been nothing but customer service jobs.

Yeah what is that about? I've had the same thing happen to me time and time again. Whether I applied for a job or was actually interviewed, I look online and there is the same job posted again. I've even seen jobs that interviewed me 2 yrs ago posted again.

What are these employers doing? Do they actually have openings or did they ever intend to fill them? I'm sick and tired of being jerked around. They should feel what its like on this side of the fence!

I had another interview today (this one was for Subway) and I asked the manager if I would hear back, she said she has 15 other applicants to interview so I'm not even going to play the waiting game, this just sucks so bad.

Well I heard back and I got an interview tomorrow. Different person responded this time and wants to seem at 2pm tomorrow. We'll see.

Well the car I was supposed to borrow to go to the interview broke down itself at the time i was supposed to go and I couldn't make other arrangements. Guess I wasn't supposed to get that job or something. Don't know. Oh well.

I sent out over twenty resumes last week with not one call back. I went to an employment agency on Thursday, scored in the top 99th percentile on all the tests and typed 98 WPM. "Great," I said to myself, "with how well I did on the tests, I'm sure they'll be able to find me a job." Do you know what they told me? That my scores were too good and that it would be very difficult to place me. I worked hard to do my best and was then told that I should have dumbed-down my answers. Is this what it's come down to? Only people with mediocre skills need apply? I'm disgusted by this kind of thinking. My parents raised me with a strong, solid work-ethic and I can't understand this at all.

I think I'm done job hunting, it's just not worth it. Why bother anymore? We lose our power on Wednesday, Internet on Saturday and phones the beginning of September. TV? That's just a dim memory around our house. We're supposed to have a hurricane the end of the week and I fervently hope it blows this entire state off the map.

There does seem to be this trend. I honestly think the hiring people aren't trained properly. Ok Hurricane, where? New Orleans, Texas Florida area?

Did I tell you what went through with the recent application. I applied for the job a week from last Friday, didn't hear from them until 11pm Monday night. They wanted me in early, I told them my car was in the shop and I didn't get the email and asked for a postponement. I was told that not everyone would be in for the interview. Whats with everyone? So I dropped thought they skipped me. Heard from them two days later a different person asked when i could come in. I told them 2 pm and arranged to borrow a car. An hour before the interview, car breaks down. Informed them of this and havent heard back. Oh well. But I don't think I'd be comfortable being interviewed by more than one person. Now its a committiee.

I think you're right; half the people working at these agencies don't have the foggiest idea what they're talking about. I think those people are there just to take up seats. Hurricane Irene, it's headed the US (I'm on the West Coast of FL) in a NE direction:

That's terrible about your car situation, it's got to be frustrating. We only have one car and I worry about something happening to it. You might still hear back from them; I'm crossing my fingers that you do. I had a committee-type of interview about a month ago. It was two people, asking insipid questions like, "If you were a pencil what kind of pencil would you be?" I was so tempted to answer, "A nice, pointed one so I could shove it in my ear and not have to listen to you asking me this stupid nonsense anymore." I was there for two hours; for a ten buck an hour job that was thirty miles away. I never heard back from them. I guess they weren't happy with my pencil choice. (Number 2, yellow) Too boring, I guess!

I got some good news regarding our electric bill. FPL has agreed to let us pay half today and the other half on Friday. Of course, by Friday we'll be in full Hurricane mode and probably won't have power anyway!

Prior to this, I've never noticed these interview amateurs. Prior to this it was like when can you start and you're in, now its ridiculous questions.

If you look at the employees at subway are they

A) Different nationalities ie spanish, arab, indian ?

or
B) Highschool, college or retirement age?

The one I interviewed for was on a military base and the employees there are young Caucasian, mostly female. I'm 23 and Asian.

In FL, we have to apply for 5 jobs a week. In order to obtain benefits, we must attach proof when claiming weeks. Last week through today, however, all I've seen were the same old jobs listed for my field. Many of which I have applied for already, but have not been contacted. This stinks!

Have another interview on Thursday for a substitute teacher position for migrant headstart. I don't know how that will go considering I'm already a "substitute teacher" for my elementary school district and I only got to sub like half a day. We'll see how it goes

No interviews coming up. When I look in the mirror I wonder if I actually exist or am I dead already and don't know it. I guess there was one small light of decency when I applied for a position and rec'd an email asking if I had extensive experience with a certain software. My heart sank because I don't know that software & told him so. He wrote me back and said he knows what its like to be on my side of the fence so he felt it was the right thing to do by at least letting me know the status of the position. It was a small effort, it didn't result in an interview but I did appreciate being treated like a person for a change.
