Seemed to be a popular thread in the last UFF so I think we should continue it here.

Applied for three jobs this week including old company see vent, and have not heard from anyone of them.

Also, I recently got an email on careerbuilder for a stay at home job for like 19 an hour they wanted my bank info during the application process. I tried to find these people online and could find nothing on them. I did not respond I had a bad feeling about it. It is bad enough we are out of work we now have to worry that we will be scammed. It is so frustrating to me.

You need to sign up for a credit freeze. It cost me a one time fee of 21 dollars for the three credit reporting agencies. They issue you a pin number and you can temporarily unfreeze it if needed. YOU CAN NOT OPEN A CREDIT ACCOUNT with a freeze in place. Nobody can use that social security number for the purposes of credit extension. Employers can run a credit check though. http://www.consumersunion.org/campaigns/learn_more/003484indiv.html

I tried to open credit twice and was denied until I did a temporary lift. Once with AT&T for a new phone account and once with the local bank.

No, NEVER EVER provide banking info. EVERY JOB ADVERTISEMENT MUST BE CONSIDERED A SCAM UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE. Protect yourself.

Staffing agency interview yesterday, phone interview and online testing for another position today via Temp agency. Went to worthless job fair today as well, might as well do ALL job fairs via online conferencing, since many employers don't show and with gas prices where they are currently, it will save us poor job hunters some money. Have an enterprenuer fair to attend on Friday.

Personally in the Midwest the days of showing up and talking to someone or getting an application are over. I know many people (with long term jobs! lol) who don't realize this is not possible let alone effective any more for anything other than maybe fast food.

There are just sooooo many chasing sooo few jobs... Mad

Ok Walbaums is hiring they say apply on line then call the local store.
another job ad for hair stylist--have my license--called about the ad, wacko didn't even know or seem to know what she wanted just like a total ditz. Didn't even seem interested or appear to remember she put in an ad. I swear its hard to know why some stay in business. Also applied for a deli job and no answer back, it was in the paper and they wanted emails only, and no answer back.

Maybe they're afraid of being sued. Who knows, I don't think there is a reason really they just have to many applicants they just automatically reject or if it was online those nasty tests you take. I refused to take a test and submitted an application and was rejected.

After one applies for a job what is the best time frame to call and inquire. i have people who suggest that you should go in the day after you fill in the application and keep being persistant. To me that makes you look desperate.

I wouldn't go in the day after you submit an application. Most positions advertised receive anywhere from 50 - 300 applicants for the job opening. I'd say wait 2 or 3 days.

From my prior experience working in Human Resources, it is alright to follow-up on an application, but if you persistently hound the hiring manager, you won't even be considered.

The best thing to do is to wait those 2 to 3 days, make the initial inquiry, let them know that you are sincerely interested in the job, ask when they will be scheduling interviews and call back if you don't hear from them and ask if you are being considered. If not, ask them point blank - why? This information will help you when you apply for other jobs.

Came across this posting on craigslist.org in my job search this morning. Note that bookkeepers and payroll managers usually average $25 an hour, without the additional responsibilities required in this job.

We are currently looking for a part-time employee to fill the hours of 9-3 Mon - Fri

Candidates must be detail oriented and able to keep important information confidential, must have reliable transportation and be dependable.

Duties include:
Answering phone
Greeting Clients
Preparing Payroll
Bookkeeping

We are a very laid back office and are looking for someone with a positive attitude to join our team.
Please email resume, I will be setting up interviews for next week.

Location: Cranston, RI
Compensation: 10.00 per hour

Yeah I kind of figured that. It doesn't look good to go in a day after. I would find it kind of creepy myself. Smile

Picked up another full-time temp job with limited duration, depending of course on whether they come up with an excuse to can me like my other temp jobs did. "Not enough initiative" or "Too slow" Contract is for 2 to 4 months, so the eval time is 2 to 4 weeks. I'm through 2 weeks currently. 2 more weeks and I expect to get the dreaded "Assignment Ended" temp pink slip.

All this, of course, if the job is actually real. Craigslist is such a spam magnet that I refuse to apply to any listing that does not tell me the business name. Show me your info and I'll show you mine.

I'm also surprised at this point that they don't want an MBA! Hard to have a "positive attitude" when union bag boys at the Von's get more than you, but then I'm not a masochist, either. idk

Nothing is stopping anyone from getting an union job, but I hear its invite only and you have to know someone etc. But I agree I think this is spam. Or someone who is unrealistic or someone who may say they posted a job and no one applied therefore no one wants to work etc.

Over the weekend, I applied for an Administrative Assistant / Bookkeeper position through Indeed.com. I already got a response. I would love to send this to those that say we aren't looking, we turn jobs down because they aren't good enough, all we want is hand-outs, "there are plenty of jobs out there", etc.

Take a look at this Boehner! Would you complete the information they want and take this job???????????????
Hello,
Am offering this position for the post of Personal assistant
and also entails construction and supervising manufacturer,So I will
give this a go .I'm looking for someone that can be trusted and
reliable, someone with good understanding and working skills. I am Mr
.Alex Davids 45 yrs of age, I'm a lawyer by profession and I have been
pretty successful in a handful of ventures I get involved in; from the
Bu tel Network in Canada and United State to various welfare and
community service programs. I most very often get my hands occupied,
so it is imperative for me to have a worthy assistant who can monitor
and keep me up to date with my activities.

This position is home-based and flexible, working with me is
basically about instructions and following them. My only fear is that
I may come at you impromptu u sometimes, so i need someone who can be
able to meet up with my irregular timings.

As my personal assistant, your activities among others will include:

*Create and modify documents using Microsoft Office
*Running personal errands, supervisions and monitoring.
*Scheduling programs, flights and keeping me up to date with them.
*Acting as an alternative telephone correspondence while I'm away.
*Making regular contacts and drop-offs on my behalf.
*Handling and monitoring some of my financial activities..
*Basic wage is $1,600 a month .

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
*Good planning, communication and organization skills
*Must be honest, reliable & dependable
*Excellent verbal & written communication skills
*Must have strong problem solving skills
*Must be organized & extremely detail oriented
*Experience working with the Internet, email, MS Excel and MS Word
*A willingness to do whatever needs to be done is a must

NOTE: The above qualification requirements can also be learn if
you are willing to take up the challenges.

I'm sure you'll understand I tend to have a very busy schedule at
this point as I am presently in Ireland for a summit. I will be back
in Six Weeks time.

I think you're the right person for this post, Please note that
this position is not office based for now because of my frequent
travels and tight schedules. It's a part-time, work from home basis
and the flexibility means that there will be busier weeks than others.
So it's a little difficult judging the exact number of hours you'll be
doing per week. If you can manage your time properly, this job may
even give you some extra while you do something else on the side. As I
have said, I'd want us to get a head start with things as soon as
possible .I do have a pile up of work and a number of unattended
chores which you can immediately assist me with. I hope we can meet up
with the workload eventually. Permit me to use the coming week to test
your efficiency and diligence towards all this, also to work out your
time schedule and fit it to mine. I really need to find the perfect
person for this job and i am confident you can take up the challenges.
On the long run we should have a relatively sound working relationship
between us.

I'm online most of the time as I am hard of hearing so I prefer we
contact each other through E-mails but if there is need for me to
call, I will be glad to do that. I am glad you are willing to work
with me and i promise to be a good boss. I am also glad on the
commitment in working. I have been checking my files and what i would
want you to do for me is to run some errands out to some of the
Charity home which I do every month. The funds will be in form of
Certified Us Payment, it will be sent over to you from one of my
clients and i have some list to email you once you received the
funds. You will make some arrangements by buying some stuff for the
kids in the nearest store around you so you can mail them out. I will
get you more information on that.

PLEASE FILL THE APPLICATION FORM BELOW:

First Name :
Middle Name:
Last Name:
Full Street Address(not PO BOX) :
City:
State:
Zip Code:
Cell Phone Number:
Home Phone Number:
Email Address:

Once I have received your application form, I will get back to you
with the task for the week ahead. Please understand that you will also
be paid ($400 a week) as well as its important for me to make the
necessary steps before i get back from my business trip. I hope i am
clear with that?

NOTE: This position is a flexible part time job, you can be in any
location, doing all the activities and if there is any relocation you
will be notify.
