Question about my claim being denied Empty Question about my claim being denied

Post by lisa88821 Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:52 pm

I worked for a short time for a company starting 09/16/2013 and was laid off 01/24/2014, my claim was denied because there were not 2 quarters to calculate my benefit amount. They calculated oct. nov and dec. 2013 for one quarter at over $8000, but didn't count january 2014 which was $3000. Is there anything I can do? My employer and HR manger told me to apply right away, so of course they did not fight it. If I reapply after I get my last check on feb 7th, will they count January 2014 as earning for a second quarter? Any help with this would be very much appreciated. Btw, I did not work the prior year to this job, so no wages can be count there. Only the 4 months and one week at this last job.

Employers usually have until January 31 to get employee wage reports to the state agency. Having done payroll in the past, I know most wait till the last day. Try again in a week or two. Your first quarter wages should be posted by then.

don't wait call them this week, you just need to show them you worked a total of enough weeks, or whatever your state uses as a base for benefits

Ok, thanks...I just don't have my last pay stub yet...but I'll call and see what they say, they aren't very helpful actually, its almost like they have no idea, unless I get lucky and speak with someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

When I called as soon as I was denied, I spoke with someone who said I didn't work enough weeks and that was that, she didn't listen to anything else I asked or had to say.

In Ohio we need to show a minimum of 20 weeks work, their records are behind (last quarter)...
Pay stubs, even direct deposit records can be acceptable to get things going till they get actual confirmation..

Unemployment is supposed to take your word (or faxed pay stubs) as proof

Question about my claim being denied Empty Re: Question about my claim being denied

Post by lisa88821 Fri Feb 07, 2014 6:33 pm

Thanks..I have been trying to get through to them since my last post...you can not get through by phone. I got my last pay stub now, so now I should have 2 quarters for them to count. Last quarter in 2013, at over $8000 and this year at over $3000, I sent them a letter, but no response in over a week. Does anyone from MI have any advice on what I should do, or know if I would even qualify?

I was told that employers report earnings quarterly and not monthly, I really cant wait until April, but its almost impossible to get through to them by phone. there were times I tried for 3 hours.

Question about my claim being denied Empty employment vs income

Post by Spoon Fri Feb 07, 2014 7:17 pm

In my scenerio of short term employment (ohio), they used one month of my income, being unemployment "income" to average out the (more then quarterly) income. However, it seems as though that standard has changed.
