I don't know about everyone else but I am
Really mad and angry about not being able to sucessfully finding a new position.
On top of that Gas and everything going up, but yet people are saying things are getting better....
NO IT'S NOT.... getting worst....
I find myself withdrawing from people, I was NEVER like that... and latley it seems like people are talking about stuipd things...
My rant...

I am with you!
Too many years being unemployed and now I am starting to wonder if it is too late to get something in my field. This makes me VERY angry that I have to work in a department store instead of using my brain that has been molded and fine-tuned by my education.
I want and NEED meaningful work in my field.

I am angry too, more than ever! I want my life back! I am sick of simply "existing"!
I want a job! Is that too much to ask for?

Re: I don't know about everyone else but I am
I agree with ya YB! I am furious that things are the way they are!!!
I miss my house that we owned for 15 yrs, I miss my freedom, I miss being able to do things with my kids like for example go to the movies, I miss feeling secure and I am beyond angry about it.
I am also angry at our government for making us beg for something that should be so simple to do, give UE benefits until the rate is near normal!!! It would stimulate the economy and stop people from falling into the abyss.

I agree. I am beyond angry this is happening to me. I did everything right, from getting good grades, to doing internships, to working in school, to getting a masters. How did it work for me? I've been unemployed almost 3 1/2 years, with a masters and multiple skills. I have so much to offer employers but they overlook me often.

I am with you MM, feel the same way. Keep trying to find work, but feel like I'm being passed over, even when I do land a promising interview. Have gotten some chump change from under-the-table jobs here and there, but nothing consistent or concrete other than my less-than-part-time part-time caregiver job. Living on chump change and wondering when the last shoe will drop and I will be either living in my car or a tent, with no money for anything. The addition of 6 weeks for 99ers here in Oregon, does not affect me, since the state decided to artificially boot me off unemployment by creating a new claim and then making sure that the new claim benefits were under what I'm making on the part-time job, so effectually, I get NADA!!
Neither any from the new claim, or the 6 weeks for the old claim.

Right on YB500. I just want to work-hard. I am tired of people asking me "So, what do you do?" It makes me so embarrassed. I worked hard for my education, even so, I would be happy to just cashier someplace to make money. I feel so thrown away.

Reality will set in to the sheeples..
At this point to vote the politicians out then you get new politicians who are just as courrupt coming into office and its the same thing.
Years ago if you were laid off you could always find a job, not now.
I've spent 18 years in the field I was in with degrees and I cannot find a job, sucks.
My life sucks and if i don't find a job, it's gonna suck even more.
If anyone thinks we live in a civil society, wait till hyperinflation kicks in, wait until people will be fighting over stupid things.
We (Everyone in the USA) are getting stressed out one way or another, fighting to keep food on the table and such.

Agreed - mode of operation is network - network - network. Pretty soon there will exist more networking events than jobs. However, HE has risen.

I have been working part-time since July 2010. Have worked briefly full-time for about 2 months, which did not last. The employment department considers me working part-time as a new claim, even though you are REQUIRED to accept part-time work as part of the job search. However, if you do accept work like I did, then if your part-time wages are more than the new claim amount (that is based on the part-time wages and other wages of the past year), then you don't get any money and the new claim is considered null and void.

Here is info on the Closing Loopholes Act of 2010. I don't know if anything here will help your situation.

Surprisingly, California has the same of which I encountered. What this means is if an individual does not earn enough during the base period or filing period; 1 year, then the individual does not earn extended benefits. In the meantime, a networking group leader states aging is not a problem since 60% of the boomers are working.

What sadness. I am over and beyond coping and being a 'good sport' regarding my life crashing down! We did not cause this or contribute in any way. If our cause is not addressed, God help this country...

Networking is one of the lies we've been told. I've networked a lot, and have gone to networking events. Not once has it paid off. I've gotten jobs from applying not who I know. I've even had people give HR my resume, only to be rejected.

In the past week or so, I have been reading more and more articles about people finally starting to speak up. There is an awful lot of news out there about disruptions at GOP "town hall" meetings with their constituents. Although most of it isn't about unemployment benefits, people are actually starting to speak out about the way our government is being handled. Hopefully, these Senators and Reps will take that message back to Capitol Hill with them on Monday and start listening to what issues the American people are really concerned about. In my opinion, this is a very large step in the right direction.
Also, a strong advocate for the 99ers, who is a member here and also has her own website and national radio show, Nicole Sandler, was among those that protested at a town hall even in FL with Rep. West. She was arrested. It has been a long time coming, but I really think our legislators are finally getting the message. WE VOTE and you had better listen!

Networking events do not work. Networking is a euphemism for "my friend got me a job". The world has always been this way. People with lot's of friends get jobs easier than those of us with just a few.

True. The best way to find a job is through someone in the same field as you that has pull. This isn't easy. I have lots of friends, and know many people in the same fields as me. Some are even in management positions but guess what? I've never gotten a job through these connections. I know people even in hiring positions but the majority are in fields that I can't work in.

I call temps every week, and still see them posting jobs for which I am very qualified, however they never call me. Have tried the networking bs, which doesn't work. Have tried the employment department's Job club, no dice. Have added certifications including the much hyped NCRC, no dice. I'm signed up with Goodwill's job connection, zilch. Gone to job fairs, worthless.
