POLL: Have you switched parties because of this?
Has the Republican blockage of the extension of Emergency Unemployment Benefits caused you to switch political parties?
I generated this poll because this issue has caused me to go from Republican to Democrat, and yes, just because of Republicans blocking EUC extension.
Per this site's TOS, new members cannot post links, so I am unable to post the link to the poll for a week. That's discouraging, but I'll be back. It's hosted on a site called easy polls dot net. I'll come back to post the direct link to the poll. In the meantime, comments either way will do.
It occurred to me: do Republicans think every one of these 1.3 million (which has now ballooned to 1.6 million) are Democrats? Based on numbers of Republicans and Democrats, they're usually within 4 percentage points of each other. That's pretty even most of the time. That means that about half of these jobless who lost their sole source of income to Republican blockage could be Republicans themselves.
That's about 800,000 voters. How could that not be political suicide?
If your only income was EUC--the only way to buy food, keep the heat on, pay the rent/mortgage--and the guys YOU voted for are the one and only reason you lost that income (in this dismal economy and job market), taking hundreds of actual money out of your pocket each month that they play games, would that be enough to make you jump the political fence?
It was enough for me, and I was curious to know how many others did the same. I voted Republican for 32 years (I'm a 50-year-old army veteran). I never will again. I'll vote Democrat or Independent or whatever I have to vote in order to vote against a Republican candidate. I'll vote for a dead write-in before I vote Republican again in my life.
Anyone else made the switch?
I posted this poll on facebook but I have a very small, tight friends list and not many voters yet. Please vote once and honestly. Feel free to post on your own fb. I'd like to see at least 1,000 votes to get an accurate idea if this party switching is happening on any real level. Thank you.

Here's a Quarter call someone who cares !
PELOSI is the one that said enough is enough now let them eat cake and ride a bike !
By the way where were you in 2008 , 09 & 10 when the real fight was going on JOHNNY COME LATELY ?
You really expect people to help you when you could have cared less about them in their time of need ..... sorry but roll on over ....OBAMA did this to you or you would have a JOB !
He's been in office 5+ years now ....should be JOBS everywhere !
And remember DEMOCRATS in the SENATE went home for Christmas before the HOUSE OF REPS. DID !
The reason there are no jobs is simple ....look no farther then BILL CLINTON & NAFTA along with the DEMOCRATS AND TAXES , TAXES, TAXES AND HIGHER TAXES !
And now we have OBAMACARE .....I mean another TAX !

Re: POLL: Have you switched parties because of this?
At this point, I couldn't care less who screwed up what--BOTH parties screwed up the economy and the jobs market beyond all hope of repair. So what good does your rant do?
Now that it's screwed up, there are 1.6 million of us (up from 1.3 just last week) who need those checks. First things first--they need to extend EUC. I'm sick and tired of Rep vs Dem flame wars. Everybody knows what's wrong and what needs fixed and yet nothing gets fixed. Did anything get fixed this month when people like me had zero income?
No. Of course not.
Is anything going to get fixed next month when people like me will have zero income?
Nope. Not a damn thing.

Falling off the rolls. You can't really fall off roles. Where was I when what? I don't even understand your post. Why argue against it? I can't link the poll in here yet, and it doesn't sound like you'd be interested in voting either way.
So what exactly is the problem? Just don't vote. Makes sense, no?

I remember that too. DC didn't care about over 10 million unemployed people then so why would they care about less than 2 million now? Still calling everybody lazy too. Remember when we were called hobos and members changed their avatars to hobos? Nothing has changed in DC, they (mostly Republicans) didn't care then and they don't now. Unemployment and jobs are just buzzwords and re-elections ploys for all of them.
Hahaha...I haven't posted in so long and I just noticed I still I have my two hobo cats hopping trains as my avatar.

Re: POLL: Have you switched parties because of this?
For starters, vote for the party that shot down the EUC-2014 extension.
Don't vote for the party that wanted it extended! And the list goes on.
Put the Repubs into power. Then see the truth if you can't already.

One day maybe just maybe you might open up the other eye and see the whole truth .
Rather than just blindly following along with one eye shut .
I wonder if you know there's more than one tree in the forest , try taking a few steps back and then look at it !
I was raised to believe there are 3 sides to every story . For example .....there's John's side and then there's Joe's side and somewhere in the middle there is the truth !
The truth in this issue is that the BOTH PARTIES are at fault and the reason this country is in shambles !
Stop changing my post !

Re: POLL: Have you switched parties because of this?
As long as those fools in Washington have food on the table, a secure roof over their heads and money in the bank, they don't give a darn about the rest of us out here except when it's time to hoodwink some poor schmuck into voting for them. Then their give a darn's busted. That's a human trait. People don't care unless unemployment directly affects them. That way the employed masses can feel secure that unemployment will never happen to them and anyone who is unemployed is worthless and it must be their fault they lost their job in the first place. I don't have much use for either party, but I despise the GOTP with a passion.
I was here in the beginning. I remember the Repubs calling us strays, druggies, criminals and breeders. I remember the fax, snail mail and email campaigns we did, I remember the mods asking people not to post inflammatory statements about Washington DC because they were supposedly watching this forum and we shouldn't rile them up. Well, maybe we should have raised a little hell. If they were watching this forum they were laughing their butts off.
I remember certain members here who became upset when I posted a link that showed the length of UI programs in other countries. At the time the Repubs claimed that the US provided the longest unemployment benefits in the world, and that just wasn't true. Some of my peers on this board were horrified, claimed it was socialism. They clung to the notion that the job creators were suddenly going to crank out millions of jobs, and they waited in vain while jobs were outsourced overseas and the unemployed were pronounced untrainable. They were ashamed of being on unemployment. They didn't want to admit that the middle class was being decimated on purpose, and they sided with the very people who were persecuting them.
Those people are long gone from this board now. Not all of them were trolls, just misguided.

Re: POLL: Have you switched parties because of this?
I just wish people would realize that BOTH parties are the reason we are in the shape we are not just one party . It took over 30 years for us to get here !
NAFTA needs to be ended, The Glass/Steagall act needs to be put back in place and Taxes need to be lowered just as a start to even begin to fix this mess and maybe just maybe 20 years from now jobs will be coming back.
Also we need to seal the border , deport all that are here illegally and freeze all H-1B & H-2B visas until every American that wants a job has one .....JMO.
