Layoffs at 7-11: News from the employed front.
Howdy all,
I hope this post finds you all well.
Just thought I'd update you on the employed front.
After five years of being on unemployment, two years of that in cosmetology school, and two years attending college on line--had to do something to prevent me from becoming absolutely obese and addicted to day time television--I then found a job at 7-11.
For the most part its an OK job , I have very little complaints, finally got back in the grind of things but am amiss to explain their mentality towards those who miss a lot of work and still remain employed. I mean they only come to work two or three days a week and call in sick the rest and on top of that leave work early on the days they do decide to show up and then there are those who show up late for work and do not do the jobs . Amazing. While there are 1000s upon 1000s of people who have been laid off or lost their jobs for some reason or other and are looking for work and would appreciate working, while these people show lack of respect for the job they were able to get.
The applications keep coming in.
I have given out 100s of applications to people who come in looking for work, some come in and return the applications and others we never see again. Of those applications that do show up, only a few are hired and because of what happened at these 7-11s when they were franchises the government now has a say in the hiring process. Illegal immigrants, stolen identities from anywhere from infants to the elderly, male and female prostitution etc, and of those that pass the government I-90 form, will get hired or have found other jobs.
Layoffs
7-11 has recently laid off a lot of people, they realized they hired to many, hired them as assistant managers and managers promising them their own stores, paid for their travel expenses to the store where I work or other stores, and recently stopped that, then laid them off. Five were laid off from my store. I wasn't one of them. And many were laid off from other stores as well. I do not know the number but I heard close to a couple of hundred.
As for me, I was told I was going to be trained for manager, because they stopped paying for gas, a couple of people travel as far as 1.5 hr away and their gas is a big chunk of the paycheck, the manager and others that travel who retained their jobs are looking for work closer to their homes, not to mention the toll it is taking on family and friends. I'll believe it when I see it of course.
So that is the news from the employed front. I have so far recommended by stretching my neck out and hope it doesn't get chopped off, people whom I know have been struggling to look for work, for positions at my store. Two were hired. So we'll see how that goes.

A lot of the people that have jobs don't appreciate them. It really until you lose something to you realize how important it was. I think this is especially true for younger people. I'm glad you have been able to keep your job.

You would expect that from the younger ones, but they're the one's who show up, the older one's in their 40s are the one's who miss the work, call in sick or don't call in at all.

that's very strange....I'm on of the few in their late 40's that will call if I know I'll be late or sick...which is very rare currently....
