Ok. I got my UI benefits for 25 weeks on 2/19/12, for $207 a week. It runs out around Oct. 1. I believe I'd qualify for an extension, since I made $16,000 during the benefit qualifying period and worked for years and years.

I'm in NV.

The question is, WILL I GET AN EXTENSION? What the HECK is going on?

I called the UI office and they said "we don't know" and "we have to wait until congress does something." So that was helpful.

Please see the link below for the dates the phase out takes effect. From the info you provided, it looks like you will be eligible for 14 weeks of tier 1. You should calculate the exact dates and number of weeks you have remaining to see if you will make the cut-off to be eligible for tier 2. Looks like it is going to be very close. Most states base their extended benefits on the federal EUC, which is due to expire at the end of the year. Your state unemployment office can give you the info on State EB. I live in RI, which is right behind NV with high unemployment rates, and we cut off state extended benefits July 1.

As far as the reps in your unemployment office "not sure", it is easy to understand why. For the past 3 years, Congress has waited until the last minute to reauthorized extended benefits. In the past, they have extended, however it does not look like that will happen again, the phase out has already started, Congress is on summer break and won't reconvene until mid-September without any discussions of extending benefits. They will be focusing on the elections when they return, and it is doubtful that after that a lame duck Congress will accomplish anything.

Phase out schedule and deadlines: http://www.unemployed-friends2.org/t4774-important-federal-unemployment-benefits-to-phase-out

Good luck!
