Bernanke: Unemployment Benefits Don’t Keep Jobless Rate High
http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2012/03/26/bernanke-unemployment-benefits-dont-keep-jobless-rate-high/?mod=google_news_blogUnemployment insurance may help encourage workers to stay in the labor force, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Monday at an economics conference.
Providing benefits to workers without a job likely doesn’t contribute to the jobless rate or the high level of the long-term unemployed, Bernanke said, responding to questions at the annual conference of the National Association for Business Economics.
“I would not attribute the extent of long-term unemployment or the very high level of unemployment to unemployment insurance,” Bernanke said. “Unemployment insurance is a very important part of our support system, our safety net.”

Big push in the Media now for our wonderful Vets for jobs as they return to their families and former lives. I hope it is for real for their sake, but I have my doubts with the media that all of what we are seeing on the tube is "real caring from these corporations to hire our vets". Probably will be more of the same "we have jobs, just can't find the exact skills needed, and just not tranferrable enough for us to actually cut them a pay check". 99's are a long forgotten sector now with us trying to compete for media attention..

The long term unemployed no matter who they are need help. Even after getting a temporary assignment that don't last. Have not worked long enough to collect Unemployment Insurance again. We are lied to the length and disposal trash is treated better! A few days here and few days there just don't cut it.

Actually I know a couple of vets who returned from the "wars" and they're having just as hard time finding employment as anyone. They have one thing going against them, PTSD, from the war. Not all suffer from it, but quite a few do and that worries some employers.

The best thing for them is to have a new normal working where they can fit in again. If the vets are unemployed that is more than a double whammy. They need to stay busy so they can heal and forget. Our problems are small compared to theirs.
