A Republican Congress person is stipulating that the unemployed should volunteer for 20 hours or more a week unpaid at some work place to receive benefits! Excuse me? Are we now slaves? This is dehumanizing!

I think that it would only be valid if at the end of the twenty hours, you were offered a full time job--that paid and had benefits!

At this point, all I can say is I am praying I can get a job and not have to worry every damn minute of what is next.
I have always done volunteer work, and I did not expect it to necssarily to get me a job. I don't think forcing volunteering is the way to go. It is so sad that people who are not in my shoes as a long-term unemployed person have no idea what it is like.
I have never been well-off. But, this is below poverty, to feel so so unvalued. I am sorry... I am not gonna go there right now.
I am having such a hard time finding confidence. I have to take some exams and never have been confident but to feel like I feel right now, all I can say is I am overwhelmed.

I hear you, J... I volunteer at my spiritual center though that is not for a job either...

I've actually applied for intern positions and haven't gotten them so I think that this stipulation is unrealistic at best...

there are several companies that routinly advertise for interns with GPA above 3.0.....

I applied for and was interviwed one time..... i was on the deans list nominated to the national honor society while in school (just a few years ago)....

But the VERY last question was a by the way which year did you graduate from High School.....


I have found intern to be a code word for 20-30 something....

Recruiters still contact me but thats it....

I suspect it is for the young because if they wind up hiring them after the internship, they won't pay well... Obnoxious...

I am going to see though if I can't take some classes through the EDD while I'm on it to beef up my computer skills...

If you are not already overburdened with student loan debt, consider a local comunity college class online two classes equals halftime student status and about 2,500$ per semester cash from a student loan

there are excellent online sites to learn PC stuff..

actually i never bought a textbook for any of my classes and used the web for all the information that i needed, just do a search on any topic you wish to learn

The ONLY thing a course offers is some structure and hopefully weeds out the more essential things to focus your study on..all the terminology can be baffling...
