Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) plans to give a speech on the House floor composed entirely by her Twitter followers and Facebook friends, her office announced Friday.

Waters asked her social-media fans to use the hashtag #ourspeech to respond to the question, “If I could give a speech on the House floor about jobs and the economy, what would I say?”

Answers posted between Friday afternoon and midnight Sunday will be reviewed and compiled into a speech that Waters plans to read on the House floor during the week of Oct. 24.

“Social media has offered us all a way to expand democracy. Now I want to bring it to the floor of Congress to let Washington know exactly how you feel. If you are tired of only politicians having a say in the debate, now is your time to change that. ‘Follow,’ ‘like’ and contribute to #ourspeech,” Waters said in a statement released by her office.
