First Vote on American Jobs Act Scheduled in Senate for Tuesday, October 11
First topic message reminder :
http://www.chn.org/humanneeds/111010b.htmlThe President’s package was introduced by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) (S. 1660) and it is scheduled to be taken up on the Senate floor late Tuesday, October 11. This first vote is on limiting debate (cloture). It will require 60 votes, which means it will not be possible to move the bill forward without some Republican support as well as near unanimity among Democrats. Neither of these is certain.
The Coalition on Human Needs sent a letter of support for the Senate version of the American Jobs Act to every senator on Friday, October 7. Whether or not the legislation has enough votes to move forward now, if Congress sees that many constituencies want this kind of action on jobs, the chance that substantial parts of the bill will be adopted improves.
There is likely to be bipartisan support for extending the payroll tax cut now in place and for cutting the employer share of the payroll tax as well. Advocates are concerned that if the package is picked apart, some of the elements most beneficial to low-income people would be dropped (such as summer and year-round jobs for youth, subsidized jobs, and other targeted aid for the long-term unemployed, including the continuation of the federal unemployment insurance program). The new unemployment data shows how important these provisions are.

1208 did you actually think there was provisions for 99ers in there? No where has there ever been mention of it being included in the Jobs bill to be voted on.
2ndly I blame both parties. I think the blame game has run it's course.
Look at the protests happening around the country right now. These are not exclusively left-wing whackos as I've heard them called.
These are folks of all walks of life all parties etc.
If we TRULY as a nation of concerned citizens are going to make a statement then we need to as a group; unite and see what is happening.
It is coming from both ends right now. This divide amongst Americans is what they want, divide and conquer.
Oldest play in the book.
Let's put politics aside for a change and look at the BIG picture.

find it very hard to believe there's any way they'll get near the 60 votes needed on this time. say maybe 53 or so

Now the deals and compromises will begin. This time though, there better be a deal included for the exhaustees, and not just "incentives to hire".mj33 wrote:guess was waisting my time posting , just saw couple mnt's ago at bottom of screen w/ votes resulting in blockage, first time watched Cspan in 6 mth's (other than Book review etc..) and likely last time until this issue is voted on again sometime next month or December.

And don't give up! The bill as a whole may be DOA, but now they will start picking it apart. This time, make sure we let them know we are here, we've been waiting, and we will not go away!
I am not giving in, that is exactly what they want!

Yep, now the true test and negotiations from legislatures and between party lines/comprimising will begin and likely evolve, change, evolve, change again etc.. so we will need to be persistant and patient as we follow the ongoing process while somewhat just going w/ the flow.
I still seem to be educating many many laid off folks currently on extensions whever meet/pop in local workforce center who have no idea/clue about things, the DOL rules w/ UI/extensions, & political positioning/updates. For some reason, appears the vast majority are seasoned older adults nearing retirement who just don't have that same 'fire' and energy/motivation to become quite involved and realizing full extent of what's happening.

Re: First Vote on American Jobs Act Scheduled in Senate for Tuesday, October 11
I got this from the American 99er Union:
Maybe Reid knows what he is doing by forcing a vote when he knew it wouldn't pass.
Just getting sick of the games, that is all it has been for the past 3 years and we are the ones who pay the price for it!
http://american99ersunion.com/2011/10/12/senate-republicans-vote-no-on-jobs-bill/"Senate Republicans voted Tuesday night, October 11th to kill President Obama’s jobs package by a vote of 50-49. Every Republican present opposed the plan along with Democrats Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jon Tester of Montana. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., switched his vote to “nay” so that he could force a future revote."
Maybe Reid knows what he is doing by forcing a vote when he knew it wouldn't pass.
