Florida Senate expected to vote on unemployment benefits bill Tuesday
The Florida Senate is expected to vote on SB728 on Tuesday. The legislation that would make substantial changes to the state's unemployment system, but not trim benefits by six weeks like the House version.
"Any cut to unemployment insurance is devastating for Florida's working and middle class families hit hard by recession," said Badili Jones of Florida New Majority. "With over 1 million unemployed and corporations not paying their fair in our state we should see unemployment insurance expanded, not threatened with cuts. The Senate should focus their energy on job creation."
In the first week of the session the Florida House passed a bill that cuts six weeks from unemployment insurance, and pegs the total numbers of weeks to the overall unemployment rate.
