They control the senate!!!

To get anything past this Senate, a super majority of 60 is needed. The GOP will filibuster and block any bill introduced to help their constituents.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
This makes me crazy. 50 people voted against a jobs bill, because their number 1 agenda is . . . to make President Obama a one term President. Okay, they are entitled to their opinion.
Now here's mine and most your our members. We shouldn't have to be pawns in a game of immoral chess to have a POINT proven. Over and over again, the unemployed and the 99ers are left to suffer at a cost only to us. How can we not be beyond angry at this. Let them know how you feel.
Last November we were told this election was all about JOBS. Well, where are they, not that we thought they would wave a magic wand and create them, but they have done nothing, nothing and less than nothing. They have no intention of putting together a jobs package much less a bill for any of us. So I think it's time to really scream.

Republicans are liars and masters of spin. They used jobs to get elected then made a complete turn around.

Well, hunter, I agree. I am not even sure it's spin anymore,it's more like duck and dodge.
Vote 53-50, should be a win, no of course not, minimum 60 votes needed. So the plan of attack for today. Senate gets our emails and tweets.
Short and sweet, here we go:
Jobs? Where are they? Not politically smart to vote for a jobs bill for millions? Defeat this President at all costs? We need jobs and we need benefits and HR589. Keep voting NO, so will we.
Grover Norquist is not the only person who can get signatures on a pledge. The unemployed pledge is: A NO VOTE FOR A JOBS BILL IS A NO VOTE FOR YOU IN 2012.
Sitting silently isn't helping us.

Wouldn't that be funny if they voted Obama for a second term just to get back at the repubs.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
Seriously, hunterforjobs, I don't think the next election is going to be about the President, it's going to be hell to be an incumbent. Polls are polls, believe them or not, the President isn't anywhere near as unpopular as Congress/Senate. They are the ones who are, for whatever reason, not taking this seriously. They think the President is campaigning? They should be, maybe then they would be out there and hearing, in person, what people what. I for one don't need another vote on immigration, abortion, Women's Health Issues, We have a serious jobs/benefits crisis here in our country. They need to focus on that. As they say, if the millions and millions of unemployed were back to work, at good, living wage jobs, the revenue would take care of itself.
A no vote for a jobs bill = a no vote for you in 2012!!! It's my new motto. Enough of the nothingness. 2012 is one year and one month away, if the plan is to give the President no wins, no bills, well, they are admitting they don't care about our lives (not that we thought they really did), they also don't care about the country. Just how long are businesses going to survive this??? Not for much longer.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
This country is indeed in a very sad state of affairs. And people are faxing, emailing, tweeting and facebooking(I'm sure there is no such word) the wrong people, I've been seriously thinking that emailing, faxing, tweeting and facebooking, the media would be more beneficial, now this convergence on wallstreet is getting media attention maybe just maybe people will notice.
Didn't the French have this problem at one time and what was their solution, ahh yes the guillotine, should we bring it back?

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
I think the media being added to the contacts list is a great idea. Every host on cnn, msnbc, nbc, abc, cbs, pbs, cspan should get a blitz as well. We will talk about this and try to come up with a plan for it.
I am also looking into the democrats who did not vote for the jobs bill, it wouldn't have been enough to get the 60, but they should hear from us as well, politics before people, not for me.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
I've read several articles today on Payroll tax cuts and Unemployment extensions........They say these parts should pass.
I'm not a 99'er yet, but it is somewhat encouraging for us that are close to expiring by years end.
Congress will almost certainly approve the parts of President Barack Obama's jobs bill that extend the payroll tax cut and long-term unemployment benefits. But his calls for new spending and a surtax on millionaires seem doomed.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
Sammy, the only problem is, the 99ers are not clearly defined as being included in this bill. We should be, and it would be great if they would vote for the extensions and payroll tax cuts, but they voted down the teachers and first responders, so I don't say it looks good. The magic number is 60 and we don't seem to have it.
By the way, welcome aboard, we need all the help we can get. Pleae see our letter to the 99ers, if you would like, please sign and you will be included in the future emails and tweets.
Again, welcome.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
Mary,
I understand it doesn't include 99'ers, but a lot of people who were recently laid off(such as myself) will become 26'ers.
I will sign The 99'ers letter.
If they tie Payroll tax cuts to the extension of unemployment benefits I believe it will get the 60 needed. UI extensions as a standalone I'm not so sure about.
Thanks for the greeting.

Re: Obamas jobs bill in the senate
Sammy, I am sorry to hear that you will fall into that category. There needs to be a blanket extension of benefits for all laid off until the unemployment rate is at 6% and only if jobs are being created at 200,000 or more per month. We would welcome your signature and I hope you will take the time to get familiar with the site and all we are trying to accomplish. We are trying very hard not to take this complete ignorance of the plight of the unemployed and lack of jobs lying down, although I am sure our elected officials would love to.
