Re: Mom passed away this morning at 1o:15 am
My older brother just got off the phone with the head nurse in the coronary care unit and sent out an update. This is what he passed on to me in an email.
"She still is in an induced coma and we don't know if she will come out of it, although we remain hopeful.
They completed the cool down process today and this evening they will begin the warm up period. This will take all night. Tomorrow morning they will begin to withdraw the sedation. Only at that point will they begin further diagnostic activities. After I asked, the nurse confirmed that we may not have any definitive information until tomorrow evening at the earliest, or even Saturday or Sunday. This cool down/warm up period is to slow down the metabolic process and allow her brain to recover from whatever occurred with minimal damage. You have heard of "miracle" recoveries by drowning victims in icy water; this is to duplicate that process.
I have said previously that they ruled out a heart attack after her ekg last night. The nurse tells me that is not necessarily the case. More testing is required. I expect the testing to begin sometime late tomorrow or Saturday and then info may begin to emerge.
Thank you all for prayers and good thoughts. I'm sure Mom appreciates them all."
It's going to be a long weekend. Continuing thoughts and prayers for my mom and our family are appreciated.

Two of my brothers are such Buttwipes. Younger bro just posted on FB "Thank God for older brothers.".. because the older brother is the one in contact with the hospital and sending out email updates.
Hello, who is the one that has been Mom's caretaker for 5 years? Another brother told me yesterday he couldn't call me because he had other things to take care of.. What the heck!
Is it me or what?

Of course it is not you. This is a very stressful time. I was caretaker for both my Mom and Dad because my siblings were too busy. At this time you need all your energy hoping the best for your Mom, and taking care of yourself.

So very sorry that your brother has no compassion. Really pisses me off. Hang in there. Will keep praying that your Mom will pull through and come home to you.

You aren't losing it! Everyone handles grief and loss in a different way. Maybe denial and ignoring the situation is how your brother is dealing with your mom's illness. I know how you feel and the hardships you are enduring now. I went through the same thing 2 years ago - I was flying back and forth between MD and RI for 9 months helping to care for my Dad and brother-in-law, who died two months apart from each other. I saw family's reaction and how they coped with it. Please just know that you will always find comfort in the fact that YOU were the one who was always there for your mom. I know what you are going through and praying for you and your mom (and all your family) through these difficult days. Peace, rhiannonj.rhiannonj wrote:Thanks Too Old... nice to know someone understands and I'm not completely losing it.

Desperate, I agree with you that people deal with grief differently. But it is not easy on the person taking care of the parent who is ill without any help from their siblings. I went through taking care of my parents with the help of my husband, as I have no siblings. It was tough, but so worth it when I heard my parents say "Thank you for taking care of me."

It's not looking good. Not much more I can say other than we need a miracle to happen.

I got some sleep last night but I am drained. Mom's condition is stable but they still have her on the ventilator. Heart is beating strong but they don't know what's gonna happen when they take her off of the ventilator. She has a bit of a gag reflex but her pupils aren't responding to light. Her blood test showed her having acid in her blood which they say caused a lack of oxygen. I've got so much going through my mind right now I can't think straight. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They mean a lot to me and my family and most of all Mom.

rhi,
Sorry about your mother. I member you mentioning her a year or more ago, while fighting for UI extensions. Best to you both.
