After an all-night negotiating session, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that he is “not nearly as optimistic” as he was last night about avoiding a government shutdown before a Friday deadline, saying of a federal funding gap: “it looks like it’s headed in that direction.

"The president isn't leading," House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) charged, noting first that he liked the president personally and that they "get along well." He criticized the president for not implementing any of his own fiscal commission's recommendations in his budget.

no unemployment checks in my state if there is a shutdown. why is it that these clowns can't come to some kind of agreement? already stressed out enough being unemployed for over a year. maybe it's time to leave this country. all of our elected officials should not take a pay check. Disgusted with all of them!

If you are on a federal extension the money won't be there according to a local newspaper where I live.

If you are on a Federal extension, you WILL be paid. This will only affect individuals who move from one tier to another or move from regular UI to a Federal tier during the shutdown.

(CNN) - CNN has learned that the first furlough notices are being sent out to congressional staffers, explaining to them whether they are considered essential or non-essential — and if they would be expected to come to work in case there is a government shutdown.

Boy oh boy, wouldnt you hate to get a notice that you are non-essential? Would make you feel really non-important that is for sure!
That must have been what happened to us unemployed 99ers, we are non-essential and we were supposed to get the notice but never received it!
I would like to tell Congress "to go straight to hell"!

Every time the democrats agree to cuts the republicans ask for more cuts. The republicans wanted $30 billion in cuts, the democrats agreed, and then the republicans said they wanted $42 billion. It has to stop somewhere, isn't that what they say about our benefits?
