Confirmed!

Unemployment insurance was discussed in the form of the “99ers” at yeseterday’s White House meeting with President Obama and five members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke was one of the five members in the room. The 99ers are those who, in most states, have already exhausted at least 99 weeks of unemployment insurance.

New York Representative Yvette Clark confirmed in specific terms that the plight of the 99ers came up yesterday during the meeting with President Obama.

I'm exstatic ...but why the big air of secrecy???? If we were discussed why not more of a statement other than yes 99'ers were discussed?

Rep. Barbara Lee was not at the meeting yesterday. The Congressional Aid has been trying to track down the CBC members that were there. Ms. Lee doesn't want to comment yet, but did make it known that one Rep. that did attend was a strong advocate for the 99ers. I suspect we will be getting more info a little bit at a time as the House was still in session when this was updated.

Just a side note, NBC Nightly news made mention of the long term unemployed tonight on their broadcast. I think we are starting to be heard.
The more people that are aware of our situation, the better the chance of swift passage!

If it were to make it to the house floor AND pass, it would take a few weeks for 99ers to receive checks. it would be retroactive from the date the pres. signs it into law.

Hopefully something will happen soon! Until then keep advocating and please try not to lose hope. I know its hard to stay optimistic but what choice do we have, right?
