Sen. Debbie Stabenow urges Gov. Rick Snyder to veto unemployment package
GRAND RAPIDS – U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow urged Gov. Rick Snyder to
veto legislation that would reduce the number of weeks Michigan
residents could obtain unemployment insurance.
Under a Republican proposal this week,
out-of-work residents would be able to collect 20 weeks of jobless
benefits, instead of 26. Stabenow said it would make Michigan the only
state in the country to cut unemployment benefits before the 26-week
limit.

Re: Sen. Debbie Stabenow urges Gov. Rick Snyder to veto unemployment package
The fact is that Michigan is in financial trouble. Governor Jennifer Granholm never had the courage to buckle down and tackle these budget problems while she was in office and now Michigan is in bad shape.
Unfortunately, while this is bad news for unemployed Americans, the simple fact is that cuts need to be made somewhere and by cutting unemployment benefits back by 6 weeks will save Michigan millions of dollars and allow newly unemployed Michigan residents to collect as their time comes around.
Bear in mind that this would only affect those workers who become unemployed after January 1st, 2012.
Michigan U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow has got a lot of nerve saying this now. This coming from a Senator who never took Tier 5 serious enough and still hasn't re-introduced s.3706 to Congress. She's nothing more than an opportunist and she needs to practice what she preaches. She expects Michigan Governor Rick Snyder not to sign the bill cutting back 6 weeks of benefits and yet she won't support a re-introduction of s.3706?
Debbie Stabenow is on her way out and Michigan residents know this and are disappointed in her. This is a Senator who doesn't even bother to respond to email messages from her own constituents and she no longer listens to the people whom she is supposed to represent.
She needs to take s.3706 and start being pro-active with that bill. Instead, s.3706 is dead in the water and she no longer advocates for Michigan's long term unemployed 99ers.
