Advice Needed
I need some advice guys. We have a situation here.
My wife was laid off about 2 years ago and recently became a 99er. Well, a connection she has been working with for quite a while finally came thru with a good job. She was notified earlier this week that training starts Monday. Here is the catch. We found out today she is pregnant! We have been married for 10 years and are both in our mid 30's with no kids, so this was a big suprise, in a good way. But, now what do we do.
The Doc wants ultra sound and physical appts next week etc..My wife doesnt know if it is such a good idea to take days off during the first week of work. She is worried because it took her so long to find a good job. Also, we don't know whether she should tell them she is pregnant or wait. I know a lot of folks here have been out of work searching like my wife, so I thought some advice might be helpful. Any thoughts on what she should do?

Re: Advice Needed
My advice is to NOT take any time off your 1st week. Id also not let them know right away she is pregnant. There as to be a work around somehow to getting the appts needed. After work??
Congrats to you and wife by the way!

Congratulations to you both. I would have to agree with Jim. If you explain to the Dr's office I am sure they could work with you. I'm happy she was able to find a job as well. Good news for both of you.

Congrats and welcome to the site. I would wait to tell them and reschedule the ultra sound. Congrats on the pregnancy as well! She is probably not too far along. She will be able to hide it for a while. I wouldnt tell them until she has to.

Re: Advice Needed
Thanks guys! Of course we are excited, but nervous. I told her to just tell the Doc what the situation is right now. We need the health benefits for sure, losing a job over an appt is not an option right now. I am self employed, so we have been winging it for a while on the benefit side of things. We just couldnt afford the Cobra and now that is not an option either, and I wasnt able to find a side job that paid benefits. My wife is so excited about the job, but went into panic mode today. I kind of did too.

Re: Advice Needed
Dave, it will all work out. I've found since this has happened, that if you just explain it to the Dr. they'll work it out for you or find you a place where you could have the ultrasound on the weekend of a week night. It's really important that you don't add undue stress right now. I am sure after being a 99er your wife is excited about the job and both of you are probably over the moon about the baby. Lot's of hospitals and med. centers do diagnostics on weekends and some even do them one or two nights a week. Let us know how you are making out and please tell your wife we're all praying for her and wish her luck on the job and the baby.

Re: Advice Needed
I would ask her supervisor for a little extra time at lunch breah and schedule it then, She can offer to make up the extra time later in the week, Discuss the situation with her doc and wait until after the test results ar in to announce your new arrival. Congrats!

Re: Advice Needed
Schedule all doctor appointments during non-working hours. Do not expect ANY employer to be "compassionate" about a pregnancy and do not mention it. Not everyone will be "happy" about it. It is your personal business & personal does not mix with business any longer in this country.
Congratulations!
