I'm a business owner who just got laid off. Advice needed!
Hi, I am in need of some advice. Here is the background information:
March 5th of last year I got hired by a company, and February 1st of this year (Friday), I got laid off. My concern is with my unemployment because I started a little side business. It makes decent money, but I do not want it to effect my unemployment, because the money needs to grow the business. I officially started my business March 2nd of last year. Last year I posted a loss because of start up costs and such, and I never took a pay check. I still plan to not take a pay check.
So I guess my question is will my UC be effected when my business makes money? Or because I personally do not get a pay check, it shouldn't make a difference? I should probably mention I live in Pennsylvania.
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

I would assume they would consider you working, unless its under the table.
I would talk to your UE office and see what they say.

welcome to the forum....
i would assume one may have a side job/business
as long as you have enough "spare" time to actively seek "employment"
i would think income from such a business is kept seperate from a regular job, once again the time factor comes in.. how much time does your business take, and is there enough left over for a "regular" job?

Do you take a salary from your business and pay into SUTA? Even if you have a small usiness, if you are laid off, you can collect. You would deduct the amount of money you pay yourself weekly, and unemployment would pay the difference between your weekly benefit rate and your salary.
Good luck!
Good luck!
