IS Life in Other Countries Better Now Or Is It Better Before Or After Or During When Was Now?

Wonder about this....
Everything in America is too expensive, we have a sad society now where there isn't much fun for anyone anymore. Just drudge, and being crushed day by day. If I was young, and well which I'm not, maybe I'd go elsewhere. Sad people even have to think that way. How about a place where people can still be humans again?

Yeah, the standard of living in this country has gone down the toilet. Truely a nightmare in every sense of the word. If this government ever admits we are in a depression, hopefully one day we'll be able to tell our grandchildren how we survived it, just like our grandparents told us how they survived theirs.

I would think a country where there is a village, food they grow for themselves and strong social networks, is going to make it far better then this country even our rural areas are being economically destroyed and people displaced as I saw with my own former community. I do think that some countries, life is a bit more closer to the land and family and well the elites have less control. Maybe I am dreaming and they are drawing the noose tight everywhere but I tend to think some other countries still have community and more independent people who can grow and forage for their own food.

Yes one can tell its all being flushed down the toilet. I don't have children but have told family members and others have children consider moving elsewhere or finding the most remote and rural area they can survive in, take up organic farming. The whole formula is being changed now. What I hate about this Depression is they do not even admit it is one. ZZZZZZ that is the American public asleep. Poor people know what is going down, and the others still with good jobs the few that are left live in dreamland.

It sounds as though you are describing present day CUBA...
there are some interesting videos on how cuba became self-sufficiant after russia abandoned them and they were for all practical purposes a pariah among nations...
some say cuba may be the role model for the future..
i think they had a problem with fertilizer (being derived from oil, and all)

Re: IS Life in Other Countries Better Now Or Is It Better Before Or After Or During When Was Now?
I agree with Elvis all through this thread. Other countries are much worse than the US. If you're thinking of going to Australia, good luck. Traversing to countries is a pipe dream - you either need a wok permit to reside in that country or marry a native of that country.
Yes Russia and Cuba - good point. We pride ourselves as the independent and land of the free. Well this does not interpret into shouting at the government for jobs that just aren't to be had and forever depending on supplemental support.
Last time I looked this was not a socialistic country, although many individual seem to be confused on this point. How about sticking with your country and donating time to make it right?
Get together and start a business. Become free of being an "employee". It's not easy but it's better than sitting around becoming the "new" poor of America.
Who said that 8% unemployment (or whatever it is) is not the new norm? Spend every waking moment you can looking for your upper ground!

Why do you say other countries are worse? I would Australia is definitely going the way this one is, following in our footsteps, I have friends in Australia. I have talked to many people who have moved to america or live elsewhere and they say life here is HARD> I lived in an immigrant dominate community once for cheap rent and some of the people even in the mid-90s told me they regretted coming here, and that Americans didn't understand working to live instead of the opposite. They tell us all the time America is great, this is the best place, and yes we do have things going for us above the third world, but is everyone else that bad? Especially places that still have traditions, and intact communities and families? Those who care about America hate what has been done to it, instead of making excuses for it being the "new norm" as the politicians and megacorporations destroy this country. The "new norm", talk about another phrase for boiling the frogs in the pot after slowly heating it up and then making excuses for it all.
The Russians are even writing articles about how America is no longer free. I saw an article in English Pravda that we are becoming a police state. Well with NDAA and Obama getting those drones they are right. I don't think life under Putin is peachy keen either, but since our leaders have done away with the Constitution and Bill of Rights....
Funny what some say should be the new norm. The real number is in the 20s, Depression levels in this country. Americans are more dependent on the system, other countries there are far more people with intact personal villages and social contacts and skills to survive--growing, hunting, foraging food. We only have some people in rural areas on land who may even be near equivalent.

What are you assigned to this board, to make sure no one talks about how things are really getting in America?
You've never heard of NDAA?
I don't have time to educate the willfully ignorant.

I don't think he is willfully ignorant, he is stating facts. As bad as it is here, it is much worse in other countries. What country would you suggest that would let Americans in to work? Most are experiencing their own recessions and high unemployment!Springflowers wrote:smindles wrote:What's your point and question? I just read rambling and missing words in sentences. Thanks Desperate. Springflowers, I'm waiting for your response. I've lived in several countries as a consultant and I know the difficulties of acquiring a work visa and permit - especially now.
You don't have to educate me on a damn thing. "Willingly ignorant"?... FO!

Re: IS Life in Other Countries Better Now Or Is It Better Before Or After Or During When Was Now?
there is alot of anger in this country as we have witnessesed since the 1970's a slow declined of wages and ever increasing "productivity".
some of this anger has gotten support from "tea partY types, and these people as well as ALL of us have a right to be angry...
traditionally those in power have tried to harness and channel this hostility toward the same old stereotypes that have worked for hundreds of years...
we are ALWAYS told that there are good and evil choices to be made and of course the "we" are always good and the they are always evil...
this goes back to the western development of the concept of the "devil"
and this whole simple 2 directional thinking....
i am currently exploring a "third" way, which is to gain a perspective of opposing views and see things in a different light,,,
with this third viewpoint the harmony of "tolerence" can be achived, simply put we should do no harm...
Watching robert macnamaras "Fog of War" has reinforced my viewpoint as mr Macnamara states that the FIRST rule of diplomacy between nations is this exact same thing.....
many of us are "angry" and rightfully so, however "WE" as a people can also rightfully place our anger were it belongs...at those at the top who always skew the playing field to benefit those in power..
another food for thought idea...Adam Smiths free market assumes that a Free market will ALWAYS act in a logical self interest....
this totally ignores many irrational like behaviors we've witnessed in our "free market" world....so in other words if the fundemental assumtion is flawed, why are we surprised at the things we have witnessed...
just some rambling thoughts as to this notion of a utopian country somewhere.....
You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

Bunga Bungle: Italy Elections Jolt Crisis Back To Life:R
The results shocked global financial markets, the Wall Street Journal writes, driving the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 216 points, its worst day since Nov. 7. The European Central Bank last summer tamped down Europe's debt crisis,
first with a promise from ECB chief Mario Draghi to do "whatever it
takes" to end the crisis and then with a promise to buy bonds to help
countries in trouble. The election results threaten to wreck the ECB's
handiwork.
I guess that's the answer to the initial question in this thread.....NO, LIFE IS NOT BETTER IN OTHER COUNTRIES! As sad as it sounds, we are much better off.

the Grand duchy of Fenwick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Fenwick
In The Mouse on Wall Street (1969), the Duchy disrupts the world's finances. In an attempt to dispose of a sizable royalty payment from an American chewing gum company by investing it in failing companies, Duchess Gloriana finds she has the Midas touch for the stock market, and in a flurry of rumor and assumption, the Duchy becomes a financial superpower.

You are missing my point, one can survive easier in other countries, there is more living off the land, ability to survive. Yes there are rural areas in America where it's more possible too. But most of us are dependent on a collapsing system. People in other countries have the survival skills and land and social resources to make it better then a lot of Americans once the bottom falls out.

Life in Italian village where you know personally who makes your cheese and your bread and farms your poultry and other meat vs. life in America, where when the trucks stop running the stores empty out.
I do not think Americans are better off. Some may get mad at me and think I am not being patriotic enough but America needs to face the facts, we have a stripped down culture where social disconnection is the rule and the social contract is breaking down. Our lives are far MORE under the control of the big banks and megacorporations then in many countries.

Re: IS Life in Other Countries Better Now Or Is It Better Before Or After Or During When Was Now?
Since almost 95% of our stuff is now manufactured by China and other countries outside of ours, all we have to do is wait until the ships stop coming. Also, I foresee that all our foodstuffs will eventually be imported, and all that we do make is exported....seems to be the way business in the USA is going.....especially since the middle class and poor can only afford cheap foreign made goods, so local and small business is drying up. This "Globalization" has done us in.
