Help! Unemployment in Michigan for full time students
Okay so I am a full time student going back up to college in the fall (couple weeks here). I have been working full time for 3 months and will no longer be employed in a week and a half, the shop I work for is moving and there will be no need for me at the new shop. I am searching for a job around school but it's hard to compete with 10,000 other work-study eligible students. I need to know if I can lawfully collect unemployment if I plan on actively searching for a job, the checks would help immensely with rent and food each month. Let me know if there's anything I can do, have been browsing the web for hours and am seeing both sides of the story with no solid answer! Thanks

welcome to the forum....
in Ohio here you need 20-26 weeks of work minimum, not sure about mich...
full time school is a good question, you must be available for work, however in Ohio certain types of school/training ARE allowed....
another point is ONline courses which are essentially 24/7 available
your state should have a handbook on the state website....

Re: Help! Unemployment in Michigan for full time students
Was this just a summer job?
Most likely, no, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits because you must be able to work any suitable job available. As Elvis said there are exceptions, most of them for state or federal retraining programs. Please check with your local unemployment center.
As far as the work study programs, give it a shot, you may get lucky and be one of the few chosen. All of us here are facing the same odds, a couple hundred (sometimes thousands) for every job opening. The only thing we can do is keep trying......one day it will happen!

Appreciate the answers! I am going to file for it and see what I get back from them, it never hurts to give it a shot right? You'd think they would want to help out those who are going to college to try and get a degree in a field that will give them a job wouldn't you? Oh well that's how the ball rolls, thanks again guys.
