The real unemployment rate
Even as Congress bickers about budget cuts, unemployment is not improving as would be expected during a “recovery”. The BLS releases their monthly, seasonally adjusted employment report, which currently shows unemployment at 9%. Gallup, on the other hand, does not use seasonally adjusted numbers and their latest report shows unemployment at 10% and underemployment at a whopping 19.6%!

I’m looking for stories from people who have been rejected during the hiring process for being unemployed. Have you been the victim of a temp agency that won’t give you an interview because you are unemployed? Have you seen jobs ads for “employed only” or “unemployed need not apply”? Have you lost a chance at a job due to a poor credit score? Send your job rejection experiences to mike@layofflist.org.

For some of us, this happens at the end of March.

nuttin2close,
It will be your first anniversary not being counted for a whole year. Mine is actually in the middle of the month.
How can we celebrate? Take a trip to Washing DC. Go to Madison, Wisconsin? There are more choices this year with the rallies for Union busting. Anyone into riding the rails that the Hobo did in the Great Depression?

The unemployment rate NEVER includes the exhaustees - once we have exhausted our UI benefits, we're considered employed. Isn't that special? Now do you see why the unemployment rate has gradually been going down ---- as more and more people become 99ers? I'm not sure that the bozos in Congress even understand or know how these figures are compiled. What's worse, the employment statistics come from "polling" groups of people - that's reliable. Considering this, can you imagine how bad the situation really is?

Yes but I thought that the BLS had agreed to start including us in this months report. Could be wrong though.

I don't think they're reporting the actual numbers. The BOL has never released the true numbers because of fears it could trigger an economic collapse.
Wall Street would definitely become impacted.

They were supposed to have a new way of counting 99ers, but unfortunately I dont think they will ever release the true numbers.

99ers are counted in some ways of figuring and not in others, there is no real way of counting how many there are.
