Re: Former Philadelphia Schools Chief Arlene Ackerman Files Unemployment Claim
Unfreaking believable. For those members not in Phila. A little background, when she finally left, it was with a huge 905,000 buyout. When cuts were made, for whatever reason, the school police dept. was hit hard and they were denied unemployment, she is taking close to a million and now able to collect, per her seperation agreement.
Precisely what people complain about all the time and those who desperately need it are lazy and don't want to work, use drugs and any other thing they can think of to throw at you. She gets ousted, for good reason, I may add and legally they have to give her the benefits, she is unemployed. Unfreaking believable. Hope the police officers and school security get a chance to collect now.

WOW, talk about nerve!
Just because she can apply for UI, and the Commission can't contest it, doesn't mean she'll get it. She's walking away with nearly a million dollars in salary!
Hopefully she won't be approved, and if she is approved, she will have the decency to recognize what a slap in the face it is to the taxpayers, and the employees who had to fight for months to get UI after getting laid off, and not take the benefits.
Will be interesting to see how it all ends.

According to todays reports and PA Law, she will get it. It was in her contract to not have this fought. Under PA Law, they cannot hold severance or contractual payouts against you and she paid into it. It's disgusting, but she does have the law on her side.
The former police, now school police, laid off in droves after massive layoffs to balance the school budget are not eligible. Most are retired police officers or on partial disability due to work injuries or inability to "walk the beat". Since they collect partial pensions or disability, they are not eligible for even partial unemployment. Now think about it, some are not 65 and on full ss and pension, they took early retirements due to budget cuts, or were injured. If they had their 20 in, they can collect, but need to work another job to pay the bills. She received 905,000 according to all reports and she can collect!. They wonder why the occupy movement exists!!!!!!! It will will be interesting to see how this plays out, Phila. is a big, big union city.

You can't collect Unemployment Benefits if your disabled. That is the law.
You can collect Social Security and Unemployment.
Collecting that much money and UE is very unfair.
Make her look for a job! Offer a low blow offer and if she refuses, take away her UE.
