President Obama's speech to the CBC - The REAL story!!
Excerpts from the President's speech to the CBC on Sunday:

But we got to work. With your help, we started fighting our way back from the brink. And at every step of the way, we've faced fierce opposition based on an old idea -- the idea that the only way to restore prosperity can't just be to let every corporation write its own rules, or give out tax breaks to the wealthiest and the most fortunate, and to tell everybody that they're on their own. There has to be a different concept of what America's all about. It has to be based on the idea that I am my brother's keeper and I am my sister's keeper, and we're in this together. We are in this thing together.
Why are we shortchanging our children when we could be putting teachers back in the classroom right now, where they belong? (Applause.) Laying off teachers, laying off police officer, laying off firefighters all across the country because state and local budgets are tough. Why aren't we helping? We did in the first two years. And then this other crowd came into Congress and now suddenly they want to stop. Tell me why we shouldn't give companies tax credits for hiring the men and women who've risked their lives for this country -- our veterans. There is no good answer for that. They shouldn't be fighting to find a job when they come home.
And most wealthy Americans would agree with that. But you know the Republicans are already dusting off their old talking points. That's class warfare, they say. In fact, in the next breath, they'll complain that people living in poverty -- people who suffered the most over the past decade -- don't pay enough in taxes. That's bad crazy. (Laughter and applause.) When you start saying, at a time when the top one-tenth of 1 percent has seen their incomes go up four or five times over the last 20 years, and folks at the bottom have seen their incomes decline -- and your response is that you want poor folks to pay more? Give me a break. If asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a janitor makes me a warrior for the working class, I wear that with a badge of honor. I have no problem with that. (Applause.) It's about time.
Throughout our history, change has often come slowly. Progress often takes time. We take a step forward, sometimes we take two steps back. Sometimes we get two steps forward and one step back. But it's never a straight line. It's never easy. And I never promised easy. Easy has never been promised to us. But we've had faith. We have had faith. We've had that good kind of crazy that says, you can't stop marching. (Applause.)
Even when folks are hitting you over the head, you can't stop marching. Even when they're turning the hoses on you, you can't stop. (Applause.) Even when somebody fires you for speaking out, you can't stop. (Applause.) Even when it looks like there's no way, you find a way -- you can't stop. (Applause.) Through the mud and the muck and the driving rain, we don't stop. Because we know the rightness of our cause -- widening the circle of opportunity, standing up for everybody's opportunities, increasing each other's prosperity. We know our cause is just. It's a righteous cause.
So in the face of troopers and teargas, folks stood unafraid. Led somebody like John Lewis to wake up after getting beaten within an inch of his life on Sunday -- he wakes up on Monday: We're going to go march. (Applause.)
Dr. King once said: "Before we reach the majestic shores of the Promised Land, there is a frustrating and bewildering wilderness ahead. We must still face prodigious hilltops of opposition and gigantic mountains of resistance. But with patient and firm determination we will press on." (Applause.)
So I don't know about you, CBC, but the future rewards those who press on. (Applause.) With patient and firm determination, I am going to press on for jobs. (Applause.) I'm going to press on for equality. (Applause.) I'm going to press on for the sake of our children. (Applause.) I'm going to press on for the sake of all those families who are struggling right now. I don't have time to feel sorry for myself. I don't have time to complain. I am going to press on. (Applause.)
I expect all of you to march with me and press on. (Applause.) Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. (Applause.) Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We've got work to do, CBC. (Applause.)

Re: President Obama's speech to the CBC - The REAL story!!
I don't see anything condescending, or insulting in this speech, as the media has reported. It is a call to action from a frustrated president, asking all to help him out. Yes, there are a lot of discouraged people who have given up, but to do that is to give in to the quality of life we have now. That is not acceptable to me. I agree with every word he said.
Although President Obama is not FDR, this speech reminds me of the speech in Madison Square Garden that FDR made on October 31, 1936.

Tonight I call the roll—the roll of honor of those who stood with us in 1932 and still stand with us today.
Written on it are the names of millions who never had a chance—men at starvation wages, women in sweatshops, children at looms.
Written on it are the names of those who despaired, young men and young women for whom opportunity had become a will-o’-the-wisp.
Written on it are the names of farmers whose acres yielded only bitterness, business men whose books were portents of disaster, home owners who were faced with eviction, frugal citizens whose savings were insecure.
Written there in large letters are the names of countless other Americans of all parties and all faiths, Americans who had eyes to see and hearts to understand, whose consciences were burdened because too many of their fellows were burdened, who looked on these things four years ago and said, “This can be changed. We will change it.”
We still lead that army in 1936. They stood with us then because in 1932 they believed. They stand with us today because in 1936 they know. And with them stand millions of new recruits who have come to know.
Their hopes have become our record.
We have not come this far without a struggle and I assure you we cannot go further without a struggle.

The media will make of it what they wish. Always have. They ignore what they are told to ignore and bastardize quotes and stories to suit their needs.
I keep saying this, if the Republican Caucus is so secure in a win in 2012 why are they strong arming Chris Christie as of this weekend to jump in. Not sounding too confident to me.

That was An excellent speech. Faux news and all the other right wing outlets are scared of his message. This is why it's been taken out of context in that manner. Anyone with 1/2 a brain can see this.
Re: President Obama's speech to the CBC - The REAL story!!
I saw a clip on Morning Joe this morning where a guy in the front row of one of Obamas events started screaming at him and calling him the "AntiChrist". He was carried off by security lol I mean come on!! People are whacked!!!
Obama handled it very well though, IMO.

A TB religious wacko. "AntiChrist", "Armageddon" he's a MOOSLIM! These people are looking for the world to end and an excuse to PUSH that agenda forward. People NEED to be scared of this festering under the surface. And stuff in this speech SHOULD have been in the SOTU address 2 years ago. They let this go on FAR too long and now wittiness the results. We all knew it and saw it coming. When will people realize they are being BRAINWASHED by the CORPORATIONS who control the media? if there is an "AntiChrist" it's the faceless corporations that has set up this shadow government that controls the very economic atmosphere. But people don't get that, it's too intangible a concept for people to comprehend. It easier to point at ONE person and say THAT's the devil. And that detracts from the evil that really is going on.

Cell phone cams and youtube. The only real press left. Until they find it and censor it.
