So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
I am so sorry to be having a hard time figuring things out. I am wondering what's on the table now. I am almost at the end of my second tier of EUC. My third tier kicks in and runs out just before the December 31, 2011. We lost Tier 4 in PA anyway, right? Is that still gone? And as of now the December 31, 2011 deadline still also holds, right.
Is Obama's plan proposing extend the eligibility period of Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) through to December 31, 2012 (another year)? His proposal does not add more weeks of benefits but simply extends the period of time someone could file for EUC, right? So I am done anyway at the end of December, even if the deadline is extended, 'cause we don't have Tier 4 here in PA?
Thanks in advance for any help. And again I apologize.

Here is a video on the GOP response. They are going to drag their heels as usual. If Obama could he would pass it today and ask for even more money.

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
The President's jobs proposal extends the current program (EUC08) for another year. It is currently set to expire on 12/31/11. His jobs plan does not add any additional weeks at the present time. There is a bill, sponsored by Rep. Barbara Lee and co-sponsored by almost 90 other Congressmen, to add 14 additional weeks to Tier 1. This would apply to everyone and we really need to push to get this bill to the floor immediately!
If the program is continued, PA would still not be eligible for Tier 4 due to the state's "low" (haha) unemployment rate. You should be eligible for 13 weeks of state extended benefits when the federal ones end.

A real extension beyond the current extensions is needed, not just renewal of the current extensions.
But we really also need something that put us at an advantage in the hiring. Maybe a reduced rate on employer side of social security if the employee is paid a living wage and is employed for over a year. I know this would be too complicated and is pie in the sky... but have to hope. And the long term unemployed really do need a boost.
I wish people who have not had to endure long-term unemployment in the current market had more understanding. The textbook ideas of getting people back to work and the opinions that extensions keep unemployed people unemployed longe need to be unlearned.
I can only speak for myself, I have applied for jobs every week. I have had so few interviews and I go into such a depressed state when I put my hopes in any jobs and then find I was not chosen.
For me, I wish I had a job to go to, but I also have started to wonder about my capabilities and will I be able to cut it when I go to work.
I know people have suffered many greater things and I need to be strong but it is really wearing me out applying for jobs, and reading or hearing people who are not in my shoes talking about unemployment.

Are the tiers expired?? Like all thats available is the 26 weeks and EB if the states is eligible??? So that would mean no 99weeks! If this is right!

Yes we could easily find this money.
This is why it's annoying when rick perry says social security is a ponzi scheme. This could be fixed tomorrow if we looked in the right places for money.

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
That’s funny, passing what? they haven't even written a bill nor figured out how to pay for it or where the money comes from. More speeches is all he’s good for he's got nothing, he known’s it, most higher up Dems know it and the country for sure knows it. This is all just another big sound bite of promising stuff that won't be agreed to by the House or Senate in just another desperate attempt to bring up his poll numbers. As for the Ponzi comment I’m surprised by some of you and how you can't acknowledge the truth in that. It is a pyramid scheme of the highest order; SS by definition as follows:
As taken from the FBI website
“What is a Ponzi scheme?
A Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors (hmmmm very telling there). Ponzi scheme organizers often solicit new investors by promising to invest funds in opportunities claimed to generate high returns with little or no risk. In many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters focus on attracting new money to make promised payments to earlier-stage investors and to use for personal expenses, instead of engaging in any legitimate investment activity.
Why do Ponzi schemes collapse?
This part was written for the doubters “With little or no legitimate earnings, the schemes require a consistent flow of money from new investors to continue. Ponzi schemes tend to collapse when it becomes difficult to recruit new investors or when a large number of existing investors cash out or use the proceeds.” What’s funny is SS is actually two Ponzi schemes since the actual money has been taken and replaced with Government IOU’s. Thanks to an inverted workforce due to the baby boomers retiring plus I agree with the statement that when a majority of people rely on Government assistance rather then being self sufficient that represents a total failure in our government and our economy. I find it funny that most “progressives” have problems with this being fact. The housing bubble due to the same government practice of insisting on home loans to people that didn’t deserve it stimulated false growth. Point of fact the left loves Ponzi schemes look at their policies…..wealth redistribution is a Ponzi scheme the left is always to stupid to think of what might happen if they ran out of wealth to bleed off. God knows they’re better at taking it then making it.

Gee Tristen, then you are voting for Rick Perry or are you in fact Rick Perry? Sorry, but I needed a laugh today. Too much crying.

First off no more crying sending you happy vibes and you all on this site must be getting to me because I will not be voting for Rick Perry. To probably everyones surprise on this board I'm voting for Obama he's actually the best Republican up there IMO.

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
Yeah, I knew Tristan would not be voting for Perry. He is right Obama is actually too right wing for the republicans of the glory days. Beside Eisenhower Obama would look like a right winger. I believe he is a leftist person but a centrist politician. That's not exactly what I thought I was buying but that's ok.
I am actually not surprised that Tristen is voting Obama at all.
What about Huntsman? Would you vote Huntsman if he made it through to be the candidate?

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
Huntsman would have been interesting............ he just didn’t seem to want it bad enough and would never pass our religious rights purity test or the tea party’s purity test (he thanked Obama in writing remember). The problem is my party has been hijacked (as I'm sure you can see if anybody who is really interested in "knowing your enemy" go back to the 70's and 80's and look at the Republican party back then), my party has been morphed into something that strays from our core values, by todays standards the old guard Repubs are liberal and not religious or conservative enough.
I don't want my party to have control of the House and the Senate and the Executive branch; the country doesn’t work well when one side runs everything. America needs a Dem with veto power as a check and balance and my party needs to purge the religious right and neocons in order to get back to our “roots”.

There was some confusion on twitter about this today....here we go again! People are going to think 99ers are included AGAIN. So frustrating I feel like ripping my hair out of my head!!!!
Lauren from @Crewof42 is reading the new version that was put out today right now. She says so far there is NO mention of 99ers. She is still reading.

Thanks for the happy vibes. At this point, I am really wondering what the hell these political parties stand for. And some people want more parties? LOL I am neither Republican or Democrat, but at this point Obama is the lesser of all the evils, although I would not go so far as to call him evil. That distinction goes to the Tea-Pukers.

Obama is not evil he's just caught between two parties that are at each others throats, if McCain would have won we would bein three wars and more debt; he is the check and balance to both parties why he isn't running on that (which he's shown he is quite good at) is beyond me.

In our system we can only have two parties. In England they have many parties and they all win seats of some amount. They don't actually vote for prime minister there however. The prime minister is decided by Parliament. This would be like voting for your congressmen and then they decide who the president is. Technically this is how we do it here too, this is what the electoral college is, but we don't think of it that way.
This is why multiple parties are hard to do here.

Obama wants to end the taxcuts for the rich and use that money to create jobs. That is exactly what we need to do.

I believe that we need to cut spending first, have additional spending offset, then raise taxes (temporally) to pay off the debt; to do otherwise is financially irresponsible.
We don't have a revenue problem yet we have a spending problem

You really believe we JUST have a spending problem? Because we SPEND to pay for the tax cuts. We borrow the money and we pay it back. 3 Trillion to date. We need to stop spending on the tax cuts. Tristen we have both problems. If you ended the Bush tax cuts now in 10 years our debt would be cut in half. They were created in 2003 when we lost 3 million jobs. Bush passed them with the excuse they would create jobs. It was another GIANT lie by Bush and Cheney. As we know the chit hit the fan and we lost MILLIONS of jobs. Our real problem is DEMAND, we need people employed and buying stuff. That is the engine of the economy. Not tax cuts, even Reagan raised taxes 11 times. The top 2% can afford 4.5% more, they are making RECORD profits as I type this.

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
Tax cuts means letting people keep what they've earned no one is more entitled to their earnings then them. That left line saying its costing is BS it isn't your money to take away period, or to use in an excel spreadsheet every time there is some new iea to spend on. The fact you are arguing with me about this demonstrates we have a spending problem, if it was a revenue problem the left wouldn’t be looking for new programs and the right wouldn’t be able to fight any more wars. Now between wars, weapon programs and the rest it's a spending problem. Like you and I (and everybody else on this board) had to do with our finances the country has to do now……..decrease spending, cut everything across the board and increase revenue to pay down debt until were good again. You can't end the tax cuts to pay off the debt and then "but wait we need to spend more" this is a foolish and unsound financial practice. Taxes are the last resort if they aren’t then your raising taxes to much where spending should be cut first........live within your means and all that? At some point the child has to leave the house and do it on their own as opposed to keep coming back home every time they want to buy something else they can't afford. And it never stops just at the top 2% that is the problem.

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
The problem is both really. We do have a revenue problem but we spend too much on things like war.
The issue with tax cuts for corporations is that it isn't really a tax cut, we give them a tax credit. The difference is that you get the credit no matter what. They don't pay their income tax weekly like we do, or did, they pay at the end of the year. So Exxon makes billions in profits, ends up owing nothing in taxes and then we give then $4 billion in tax credits.
This is the issue.
We have to spend to get out of the recession just like we did in the 30's but the reason we don't have the money if because we have been spending a billion dollars a week on war for 10 years.

Re: So, in light of Obama's plan, can someone tell me what is on the table?
I received a strange unemployment notice today. Stating I was overpaid $25 on a week in June 2010 under federal extension. I guess I have to just be ok with it and I guess it could be worse. I have had a few big mistakes unemployment made in the past and with the little issues like this, I really have little trust and wonder if Wisconsin and Federal government are just screwing with things for those who are suffering the most.
I am counting my blessings, but $25 is alot of money to me.
Also, I feel ashamed to say this, but found myself jealous of someone when I saw them doing a job function I had just applied for and was turned down. Jealousy... anger... muttering not so nice words... I am pretty ashamed of myself, but it is really telling how it has been too long, too many applications and still no job.
Now that my unemployment is almost up in the next week or two, I am being told I was overpaid $25 over a year ago. Like I said I will keep counting my blessings, but I feel like I am being sabotaged or something.
