Obama proposes sweeping changes to unemployment benefits
First topic message reminder :
http://tinyurl.com/3s4nw4dThe nation's unemployment benefits system would undergo extensive changes under the jobs proposal President Obama outlined Thursday.
Calling it "the most sweeping reforms to the unemployment insurance system in 40 years," the administration wants to broaden the program beyond its core mission of sending checks to the jobless. The expanded goal: helping the jobless transition back to the workplace.
"We have to do more to help the long-term unemployed in their search for work," Obama said in his speech.

Re: Obama proposes sweeping changes to unemployment benefits
What I saw of the "Obama" speech appears he is just giving words. I think it would be great to offer a credit to employers who hire a long-term unemployed. This should be anyone over 26 weeks, but that will not happen. Employers / human resource gurus don't like hiring unemployed people. And if nothing is done to "force" the hiring of long-term unemployed, things will continue to get worse. The unemployed rate is not telling the real story, the fact the percent of unemployed that are unemployed for long-term has risen should be of concern.
I wish there would be something that would force companies to stop paying bonuses if they have had any layoff in the last few years.
I hope and pray things get better. I am facing a reduced unemployment soon as I worked part-time so my weekly rate will be less than 1/2 in 2 - 3 weeks. I keep hoping I will land a job when by the time my full unemployment runs out. It will be hard, but will have to apply for foodstamps and start begging I think.

Re: Obama proposes sweeping changes to unemployment benefits
Yep! The best way to not deal with 99er's is to ignore them! Give your attention to the 26 weekers and call them long term unemployed and not even address or mention THOSE WHO"S BENEFITS RAN OUT MONTHS AGO! If you hear that, then maybe there is slight hope! But NOT HEARING Obama saying anything about those who have been out for months! HELLO! So all you who are out of weeks, don't worry his stimulus will hire millions and millions by 2012!
