Help The 99ers

From the BLS, this table documenting the number of unemployed workers, grouped by number of weeks of unemployment. (source: Current Population Survey, Table 38)
As explained here, we report two figures: the number of people in the 60-98 week category, and those in the 99 weeks and over category

Re: Help The 99ers
The problem with those BLS figures is that they claim there are only 2 million 99ers, total.
Now, the California EDD says there are almost half a million 99ers in California alone. How do you reconcile that with only 2 million total in the nation?
I think we all know there are between 6 and 7 million 99ers in the nation in total, perhaps close to 8 million now. So, if BLS lies about that, why should we believe anything they say?

Redpossum,
Take another look at the stat pack page. One of the charts there is the number of people who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or longer.
The BLS can track that particular number back to 1948. It's a proven, reliable indicator.
Today, there are 6.289 million Americans who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or longer, and that includes the 99ers.
You may recall that the Congressional Research Service checked on the BLS' numbers. They came up with very similar figures.
In May, when I last asked the various states to provide me with their estimates of exhaustees, CA reported roughly 373,000, NY reported roughly 220,000 and PA about 131,000 - that's 724,000 out of the roughly 1.9 million 99ers in May, from three of the hardest-hit "big" states - I'd say that's a pretty close accounting.
We want the numbers to be bigger, because we want more people to recognize the urgency of our cause. I get that. But it doesn't matter if it's 10 million Americans or 10,000 - America has not seen an unemployment crisis like this in the post-WWII era.
We're faced with something unprecedented in our lifetimes, and we as a Republic have not risen to the challenge.
Re: Help The 99ers
To quote from the California EDD
"As of July 11, 2011, there have been more than 469,000 unemployed
workers in California who have run out of all available benefits, up to
the 99 week maximum."
The document that is taken from is located here -
http://edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/Federal_Unemployment_Insurance_Extensions.htm
It's down at the bottom, next to last section.
You're saying it was 373K in May, and here in July it's 469K, that's 96,000 new 99ers in two months. In California alone. And you believe that 2 million figure?
I don't. You're entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. But I don't believe these figures for a minute. Because they're not even internally consistent, let alone consistent with observed reality.

Then come back and tell me if you still believe what the government tells you
