I GOT THE JOB!!!
First topic message reminder :
Its at a nursing home for what they call "direct care". Its only 16 hours per week but Ill take it if they'll give it to me!! Its also right up the street from my house. the hours are sat. and sun. 7-3 and every other weekend is 3-11!! I really hope I get it, its what I want to do. Not sure what pay they are offering yet, usually around here its at least 10 an hour for that type of job.
Prayers and good thoughts will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

nfpexec wrote:Well I had an interview yesterday. In the good old days I wouldn't consider a long commute from Queens to Brooklyn but the good old days are over! I woke up with a throbbing headache and my stomach was doing flip flops. I knew it was anxiety & nerves. Every interview is so important & so much rests on it. I managed to pull myself together & hit the subway. The train was slow & I was running late. As I nervously checked my watch I saw I was late & attempted to send an email to the interviewer. Of course I was underground so it didnt go thru. Fortunately I called as soon as I reached my stop & it was only one block from subway. The man seemed very relaxed & not at all edgy that I was 15 minutes late evn though I apologized. I met with him & his partner. Its a small place, although they've been around for 15 yrs.
I was relaxed & showed that I was extremely knowledgable about the position & nonprofit work. It was mentioned that I had a lot of experience but I tried to spin that to say that I hadn't really worked in this particular aspect but I knew alot about nonprofits having worked as an executive director & could help with business development. I also gave specific examples.
It was pleasant & easy going & while that's nice & it helped to relieve my anxiety, ultimately it will only be considered a good interview if there is an offer. Like I said, big pay cut, no benefits but I would accept & make the most of the opportunity if they let me. I'm just hoping they don't decide that it would be easier to go with a younger less experienced person that they can mold whichever way they want.
hoping you hear good news and soon...... that waiting is a killer...time just seems to stand still.....

If they are willing to invest in a background check then I think your chances are really good.

@Nfpexec I don't blame you about not getting overly excited about job interviews. I too had some great interviews and felt good abou them they were rare, and didin't hear or if I did hear, they said they were going another way.

Same here. I've had some interviews that I thought went well and never hear from anyone again. I've had one where it was a second interview and I thought I would get a job offer, but employer told me he wasn't ready to make a decision yet, most have been a waste of time. I don't get excited anymore.

Re: I GOT THE JOB!!!
Thanks so much guys and gals! Im very excited. However they are already changing my schedule and I havent even started yet LOL
but hey, they are working around my trip to fla so I guess I cant complain (yet)
I wish it were more hours, but knowing how it works I will pick up extra shifts I am sure. When I did this type of work years ago there was always someone who needed a shift filled.

Hey, you can't worship me--I'm an atheist! It would be...well, I don't know what it would be, but you can't!
