Obama hints at unemployment extension push
http://floridaindependent.com/33241/obama-unemployment-extension
Good news
During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday, President Obama suggested that he would like to explore the possibility of extending unemployment benefits again with congressional leaders: #
Bad news
Another extension seems highly unlikely despite continuing high unemployment rates. The Republican-led House appears to be unwilling to do another extension unless the cost is offset by budget cuts. #
No matter what keep calling, emailing and tweeting. Giving up is not an option!

This I am sure is not to include 99ers just like last time.. I think it would be political suicide if the REAL UI numbers came out..
Just my opinon..

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
I wonder why... the repugs do not support us. If they passed a bill and it put all unemployed people back into play that would make the UE rate sky rocket. They seem to want that rate to be high so they can blame the president. Pass a bill to help all 99'ers and watch those numbers go up.

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
I agree Salty, it seems to me they should want another extension and include ALL unemployed.
Before the 2011 deadline is extended the 99ers need help NOW and have for over a year now!
I saw a show this morning with Robert Reich on and he said it could take till 2016 to get to pre-recession job levels!

Its the money. They only want to spend it if it goes to the rich. Or war.

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
Yeah it will always be about the money. But if they did this to help all the UE and that number goes up... Obama goes out and the repugs win the president's seat and they will get to play with all the big money and toys.
I don't like the idea at all, but I am surprised they do not see this..

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
I am not so sure the Repub get a walk in this. Many are screaming now at their lack of concern for jobs, the elderly, medicare, medicaid I don't think they just get elected because of the unemployment numbers. Most people realize that we are not really in recovery mode and why. They can continue to not want to spend and they can continue this recession by not giving extensions and stopping all consumer spending, which drives hiring. They are taking heat on taxes as well and everyone is on to them.

Well, as we have representatives who only work 2/3 of the time or less, then they should only have part time jobs and no benefits. It'll be interesting to see who they work for once they leave office. Think of the savings!

There going to have to make a very clear and loud move away from the teaparty members, or I think they will all get it rubbed on them somewhere.

If he is talking about this, we best push as hard as ever for 99ers to be included. If they leave us out again, we are all going to take permanent residence on his front lawn!!!!

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
I agree with judi58, he is not talking about us. He is talking about extending the deadlines again so federal extensions don't end 12/31. That would be devastating to his presidential campaign just before primary season begins.

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
Just sent another email to President Obama regarding his "Jobs" meeting this week. I don't know if he reads them. I don't know if he wishes to deal with the plight of the long term unemployed, No matter, I will continue to contact him and remind him that we still exist and that we need help. My fingers are becoming numb from so much typing lately, but I will not give up.
To paraphrase a slogan so frequently used by the NRA...I will give up the fight only when they pry my cold, dead hands from my keyboard!

I'll say it this way!!! R U Telling me they cannot find budget cuts enough to cover an extension??? I think its a matter of not having anywhere to cut budgets but its a matter of defiance to the repubs.. No matter, it is what it is!!!

Re: Obama hints at unemployment extension push
If there is not help for the 99ers in any legislation this go round, if it happens, there will be a major outcry. There are now far more 99ers than when we started over 1-1/2 years ago. Enough media are aware of us and extending benefits beyond December will not do any recent exhaustees, covered under the last extension any good either.
We have to keep it up and not give up, are you with me 1208, please.
Also, on my way home from babysitting, KYW was reporting on the hypocrisy of the republicans claiming the President has to do more than make speeches and have press conferences to create jobs. Well here is the rub on that. For 1-1/2 years, every piece of legislation for the unemployed and the 99ers has been shot down, fillabustered or laughed at by the same people calling the President a hypocrite. Remember last summer, 4 months waiting for extensions, again in November/December, only nothing for the 99ers? The R E P U B L I C A N S shot down everything. Who was responsible for wanting drug tests, who called us lazy, drug addicted, people who did not really want to work --- THE REPUBLICANS, that's who. Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Orin Hatch and company, no benefits. Let's do the math, how many jobs lost, how many jobs gained - 5 applicants for every opening, openings for the jobs that pay 7-8.50/hr, who is living on this?
They need revenues, we need jobs, they have the corporations in their pockets, they will continue to fight to give them tax break after tax break, now it's time for them to pay back. Start hiring. They can't have something for nothing either.
Please, please, keep your voices heard.

I'am sorry! I agree. But I mean the dems. won't try to find anywhere to cut to pay for extensions(true) AND even if they did the repubs. would be two faced and still find something else to say no to! They said pay for and knew well that they wouldn't approve even if the dems paid for... So screwed by both sides!

I don't see this happening in this political climate. I am focusing on trying to survive and continue looking for work and not holding my breath for any help from gov't.

Probably right. I noticed in the interview with Chris Matthews that she is now the Chairperson of the CBC - it was Emmanuel Cleaver. Isn't that what they did to Sen. Stabenow to silence her - give her a high ranking position on a Senate Committee?
