CORRECTED: New jobless claims unexpectedly rise TO 427,000
Fewer people likely applied for unemployment benefits last week, though probably not enough to signal widespread improvement in hiring.
Economists forecast that 419,000 laid-off workers applied for unemployment benefits last week, according to a FactSet survey. That would be a drop of 3,000 from the previous week.
The report is scheduled to be released by the Labor Department on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

419,000 is the number that is sad. We need a Jobs Bill, a real one.

And, again, off subject but how many long term exhaustees, do we have in those numbers, how many out of work with no income for 3 months, 6 months, and/or 12 months or more?? This is the statistic we really need added on a weekly basis, if not at least monthly.
Repeating once again: 3 MONTHS 6 MONTHS 12 MONTHS
LONG TERM EXHAUSTEES

I provided a link in another thread from the St. Louis Federal Reserve where this information may be extracted from. Please, anyone who has the time or would like to undertake this project - go for it!

(Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week, according to a report on Thursday that could reinforce fears the labor market recovery has stalled.
Initial claims for state jobless benefits increased 1,000 to 427,000, the Labor Department said.

Re: CORRECTED: New jobless claims unexpectedly rise TO 427,000
Ive thought about this about 6-7 months ago, yet havent seen one statistic out there for public use that addresses this, and there are plenty enough existing organizations I also know for fact that have been approached by this. Not quite sure how our own involvement on this could generate across nation necessary data for this, but if some reporter (like the Arizona PBS reporter etc..) were in contact with us, we then could let her know about its importance and suggesting it, and perhaps she would have more authority or even 'pool' to obtain such data, and even quicker.

Re: CORRECTED: New jobless claims unexpectedly rise TO 427,000
city-data.com website forum might be good source worth contacting as there's a quite resourceful/knowledgeable person on the rules/regulartions on UI screeen name 'ardriane23' or something of the sort, he/she has tons of helpful posts over past year with difficult and challenging questions for claimants, and perhaps she can suggest where to obtain such information or if any of that does indeed exist but not ever being put in public.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to successfully register for account on that site, but regularly go on the site to read posts, its the working and unemployment section, and if anyone's interested I can further assist in PM'ing that persons EXACT screen name, she is very helpful and regular poster who think may even work in unemp. compensation office or capacity of some sort.

"A decrease of 89,000 from the previous week", that is interesting. I wonder how the number stands as of today, being 2 1/2 weeks later.

I am assuming that the majority of the "decrease" are the people who have exhausted benefits.mj33 wrote:"A decrease of 89,000 from the previous week", that is interesting. I wonder how the number stands as of today, being 2 1/2 weeks later.

Amazing! Short while back they estimated those receiving unemployment benefits was only 4.6 million.. wow! Talk about playing with the numbers! We'll never know the truth! So up to 7.6 million and yet UE rate is 9.1%.. Should be 9.8% and I bet it is really 9.8% or higher!!

yes, exactly what I was thinking and gaged from that article, guess that's our point of view being in our shoes so can comprehend it that way, and that UE Rate number has lot to be desired, we don't really know, and that more than likely is not accurate by all means, and much higher most likely speaking.
