A job!!!! never thought I'd be writing this
Just got a phone call from the temp agency - I am going to work at 1:30 p.m. and working til the line ends which could be 10 p.m. up to 2 a.m. It's inspection at the yogurt company here in town. Pays $9.50 an hour plus it's about 2 miles from where I live. I am on the call list at the temp agency which my neighbor works at. I told her to give me all the hours she can and she said she plans to. I know it's a far cry from the salary I was making as a supervisor but at least it's $$$ coming in. My oldest son made a cute comment - he said "Mom, you got to think of this as a promotion. What are you bringing in now - 0 - so it's a $9.50 promotion".
Anyways, it's been 3 1/2 years since I've had a job and I am super nervous. Wish me luck - I know I'll need it.

Congratulations and Good Luck!!!
I love your son's perspective on this! What a great, positive outlook he has! You should be so proud of him!
You will do just fine! I hope it turns into something permanent! Let us know how you make out! I'll be thinking of you!
Isn't your birthday coming up? I'll bet this is one of the best gifts you've ever received!
You are the second person within a month to receive a job as a "birthday present". The same thing happened to Jobless_in_Ma! Mine is in a couple of weeks, let's hope "things do come in three's"!

Re: A job!!!! never thought I'd be writing this
well I managed to work 9 1/2 hr. yesterday and survive! Came home tired, feet wet, hungry and walked into a freezing bedroom - I had left my windows open and the fan on high - and it got real cold last nite. I actually drove home with the heater on. Turned off the fan, ate a quick sandwich and buried myself in my blanket and watched a little t.v. and was asleep within minutes.
Anyway it was a very boring job - inspect 8 rows of 6 oz. containers of yogurt is not very stimulating. The foil cap was driving my eyes crazy. But one cool benefit is you can take a container of yogurt, pop the foil and slurp it down, right on the line. That's crazy. I felt very guilty doing that, so I would just wait until a container came down without a top and ate that. Sooooooo goood. And what was fun to watch was when a machine jammed up - all of a sudden you would hear loud pops, and see the containers explode - just like a yogurt volcano!
The supervisor came over to talk to me - turns out he also worked for Hershey - the Oakdale plant in CA. which moved to Mexico. I told him I was willing to pull as many hours that I could and that 2nd shift is my preference. He said great - he can get me in there 4 to 6 days a week. Said that 2nd shift is a hard shift to staff. The way it works is that 2 days a week the line can run 24 hrs. straight without shutting down for cleaning. The remaining days they have to have a window of 3 hours to completely do a CIP cleaning, which means that all the piping leading from the yogurt kitchen down to the machines have to be cleaned because they do different flavors of yogurt. We use to have to do that at Peter Paul when we changed from milk chocolate over to dark chocolate and visa versa.
I felt very comfortable being in a food manufacturing facility once again. Actually felt a little pep in my step if you know what I mean. Saw a lot of the same machinery etc. that I was use to at Peter Paul. Just hope that this turns into a consistent source of income.
I just want to let you know that I am still advocating for the unemployed - this job or any job is a not guarantee. I was use to knowing that I had a permanent job, with a permanent schedule for 27 years - and when the plant closed I was devastated. And I will be popping in daily (I hope) to see what's up.
Birthday surprises are great!
P.S. - I'm going back in today for at least 12 hours.
