Getting HR 589 moving again
Since the Ways and Means Committee seems to have completely bypassed HR 589, is there a way to take it out of their hands and put it somewhere where it can actually be deliberated and voted on? ...And soon?

Re: Getting HR 589 moving again
Unfortunately, it has to go through Camp. The only other thing that might help is to push the senate to draft another bill similar to S3706 which died in the senate last year. BOTH branches of government should have a bill in each chamber IMO. This is getting ridiculous.

Chairman Camp can let it go to the Floor without a hearing, however, they can debate all they want - without some kind of "deal" or "compromise" with the Republican majority, HR 589 will not pass. If / when that happens, a new bill would have to be brought forward in either the House or Senate.
The entire GOP Caucus is scheduled to meet with the President either tomorrow or Thursday to begin negotiations on the 2012 budget. That is where all the compromises will come from.

We need more people to contact congress to get this moving. Its obvious that they react to the negative press. Look what happened to HR1745, it was pulled and probably because of all the bad press and constituents complaining. We need more exposure and more people fighting for this.

...... AND the GOP on board with it. Again, to bring it to the Floor now without Republican support will be the end of it.
The Senate should draft a similar bill, just like Sen. Orrin Hatch did with S. 904 - the "sister" bill to HR 1745.

Then we continue to contact the House and we add the Senate to our list when we email, fax and tweet. It wouldn't hurt to start working the phones on the Senate side either.

Have we heard even a "peep" from Barbara Lee? I would be most interested in her current outlook on her sponsored bill and should we continue to believe in it.
It's time for her to come out and provide an assessment of this long drawn out "flash in the pan" bill.

So should her 82 Co-Sponsors. At least Rep. Lee has been outspoken about it. Not a peep from anyone other than Rep. Bobby Scott.

Re: Getting HR 589 moving again
I sent our letter to all co-sponsors and to Rep Lee asking if she had any info on HR589. I made about 45 calls since 3pm. No surprise, they are all consumed with the Debt Ceiling vote tonight at 6:30. Who knows, maybe the VP and his committee can pull a rabbit out of a hat for us.
If I get a response from any, I will let you know.

That's the spirit, MaryKay! Actually I should say that's the "MaryKay Spirit", as I've come to know.
Yeah, this bill is over 6 months old and with all the new push and pull bills in mind, we need a reality check on HR 589 like N.O.W...

I also spent the afternoon emailing and calling all I could think of, from my local district rep, to President Obama. Hoping it helps.
