CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
While meeting with President Obama, the CBC outlined their proposed 2012 budget plan which includes restored funding for several programs which were cut in the GOP plan proposed by Paul Ryan (and passed by the House), including $16b for HR589.

Only if they can get something in return. Those repos will want an arm and a leg for a pinky.

Unless repukes backtrack tax hikes are off the table. They will have to have something in return too, but unless they change their stand on tax increases on the *cough* job creators like the hedge fund managers well.....

I wonder if it has any republican support. I read somewhere that Allen West was at the meeting.

I just quickly skimmed the bill, it sounds great but getting Republican support will be difficult if not impossible.

Updated article from Kelly.
The good news for 99ers: The President mentioned he wants to possibly attach the 99ers money to some other big piece of legislation somehow… which piece, how and when is unclear…
What the heck OBAMA GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE TALK TO THE PEOPLE AND GET IT DONE!!

Good morning tater, that article you mention is topic of this thread. The CBC's budget is also included in the OP. That is part of the People's Budget which was offered as an alternative to Ryan's outrageous 2012 plan.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
You are right. The following was updated:
The CBC Budget is included with the 'People's Budget'.
The following was posted on Thursday, prior to the White House meeting in which the CBC presented its 2012 budget plan to President Obama:
Cleaver, CBC to Refocus Obama on Gravity of 16.1% Unemployment“We want the American public, most particularly the black American public, to know what we are asking for and what they are interested in.” — CBC Chair Emanuel Cleaver, March 11, 2011
The CBC Budget is included with the 'People's Budget'.

At the sense of urgency and level of teamwork amongst party lines, I think its unfortunately a realistic and safe assessment to say its likely going to take at least another month or two for CBC to get anything firmly accomplished in our favor once additional weeks are finally added into another bill. This could get really ugly as it is starting to already get if no direct action (other than 'talk and meetings) occurs during the month of June. The 99ers absolutely cannot continue to wait and be put in position with assistance two more months.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
All the more reason to keep up the pressure, the phone calls, the emails and the tweets. I don't think it would hurt to mention that many 99ers have reached and some have passed their first year anniversaries as 99ers and still no jobs. It also wouldn't hurt to mention that food, gas, utilities and rents are rising faster than incomes so how are people without an income supposed to overcome this?

All good valid points marykay, certainly no argument to be made there whatsoever. I guess I was maybe just making attempt for those new to UI system or whom don't follow all that much in painting the true realistic picture that has seemingly taken its course and where we are currently up through today being Mid May.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
One would think that IF the CBC is that serious and concerned in helping our cause for the long term unemployed/exhaustees, then someone in their group would hopefully step up to plate and lead us and our efforts by communicating and making weekly dialogue, at least via their personal twitter acounts from the Crewof42 website, but Im not sure that enough direct action over past couple months has co-existed to pursuade them. Hope Im wrong on this and that they can influence and work together asap with the other party lines in charge by some luck of imagination.

Also, the CBC's budget is included in the People's Budget as an alternative to Paul Ryan's. That whole issue is not even going to be resolved until sometime in August, at the earliest.
I hope that that is not where they are planning to find the funding for HR 589 because if it is, we have an awful long wait and a lot of compromise before we actually see any kind of help for the 99ers.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
I was thinking that same thing also which is very scary desperate, and that likely may drag out until September very easily. Best case scenario certainly is with comprimise tied in with another bill which most likely will be case, no way with way things are going they'll just enact bill for 99ers, Ive become realistic now from after this week.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
mj33 I don't disagree with your points either. We should have a more open dialogue, however, getting one is the problem. They are taking us seriously, which is more than anyone has. We are not counted so no one knows are "exact" numbers, we are all scattered across the country so we don't even know how many "we are" and unfortunately, we don't have the funds to show up on the capital steps and be counted on the same day. Our best course of action is to keep the lines of communication open, fax, call and email and keep up the tweets. When you receive the same message everyday from a large number of people and it's kept up for months, you have to start believing, which is why I think the CBC took such action. In addition, they are active in their communities and unemployment has hit the black community hardest. Yes, we are all one when we are in this mess together, but the CBC is working for their communities, where is our representation? If it were not for their actions, we would not be a blip on anyones radar. They need a big thank you because they are actively looking for ways to get benefits and create jobs within their communities, for the people who elected them. Anyone who thinks that Rep Lee and company are making a political statement, needs to think again. Spending more money is not a popular thing right now and this was not introduced and left to die. She has been on msnbc 3 times in the last month discussing the 99ers. No one else has come out this way for us. Unfortunately, everytime something has been introduced, we have a crisis concerning something other than unemployment. This is why I feel we need to keep up the pressure, not on the CBC, they know we are here and working, it's the President, the VP (and he is still a powerful man with Cong and Senate), the Republicans, the Speaker, the Leader, Minority Leaders and we need to do it every day. I am back at home now and starting in tomorrow. I am one year and two days a 99er and at 56, I never thought I would be babysitting and cutting lawns and cleaning houses to make gas money and get a haircut, just in case I get an interview.
They need to hear from all of us, they need to know that we are all aware that we can't spend money like water, but WHERE ARE THE JOBS?? When the speaker ran in November, he didn't say jobs were a priority after we win the elections, get the budget slashed and get rid of Social Security, Medicaire and Medicaid, he said the American People have spoken and they want JOBS!!! We are 131 days in, where are these jobs.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
Just my opinion, but being a "99er" for 15 months now, the best thing that could happen for us in order to see any kind of help in the near future is for a compromise between Reps. Lee and Camp on their two pieces of legislation that have been introduced.
I don't see any other way we will ever get any help.

Re: CBC budget proposal includes $16B for HR589
Everything is basically summed up right there in Desperates last post, they have to find way to put all their personal egos aside on both sides of isle and come to comprimise behind closed doors and/or 'opened' doors, whatever it takes, a year into it and each passing week with number of total unemployed now has made this drastic issue and national epidemic to where something will have to be done this summer, within the next two months. I support any group that fights for common causes of working class and those like us that have worked hard to get where we have been at and at same time realize its their duty to listen more , that's my only point, but I wont' stop neither.
