Oregon: Flood of applicants wipes out emergency unemployment fund
An emergency unemployment fund designed to provide about 17,000 out-of-work Oregonians another six weeks of benefits will run out in half the time.
Instead of the 17,000 expected to be eligible for the benefits, the actual figure was about 22,000, said Craig Spivey of the Oregon Employment Department.
Tthe Oregon Emergency Benefits program, also called OEB3, took effect March 24 and the first payments went out April 29. But Spivey said it appears that the $30 million fund could already be emptied out by the week of May 14.
