Re: HR 589 - "It's Time for Movement"
First topic message reminder :
I think they return Monday and I also hope after three weeks of higher new jobless claims that Lee gets on the floor and brings up this bill 589 and does something more than is being done. Its time for movement!

lendmeflight2 wrote:I agree. There isn't enough being done. 14 added weeks is nothing and won't make a bit of difference 4 months from now. The problem is that the government cannot create jobs without spending money and the GOP congress won't spend money. We could employ a lot of people by rebuilding infrastructure. China does this why can't we? Is China superior to the ole U S of A? I doubt it, they just know how to use their resources, their people, to create an economy.
For God's sake, there is even a tv show on the history channel that shows, every week, how our bridges and roads are all falling apart. We need to spend money to fix this stuff.
I agree, and what ever happened to the "Putting America back to work" project etc that was supposed to work on infrastructure? Well we all know what happened to that. Slashes in states budgets etc. I saw a few signs last year posted on certain highway projects, but that's it since.

Also the stimulus worked, in my opinion, but the problem is that the states were allowed to administer it. That should never have happened. The federal government should have spent that money directly and it would have jump started the economy better. I can take people to places in North Carolina where the state spent the money to create some work for people but some states probably wasted it or paid it on their deficits.

That is exactly what Rhode Island did - wasted it rather invest in putting people back to work. I wish I would have know then what I know now, I would have left while I still had money to do it. The state is a barren wasteland now and I am stuck here.

Re: HR 589 - "It's Time for Movement"
They're back Monday and will be working on spending and debt ceiling and budgets etc! And we need to fax, e-mail, call and more to keep up progress on 589 while the supporters of the bill need to keep it in the forefront and try to move out of committee for action... We need to overload them with letters, e-mails, and faxes and more to remind them, Hey we are still here!!!

It's always going to be something. They have to start arguing over the debt ceiling this week. Everyone knows they will raise it because if not the economy will collapse again.

Re: HR 589 - "It's Time for Movement"
I hate to say this but when I have commented that the leaders who introduced 589 and took up the cause I meant when congress will be working on debt limit and spending and budgets, Lee and others need to keep 589 up front from the political arena! That is a common understood fact. As well as all of the unemployed to keep on keeping on with all communications. But if 589 isn't brought up or mentioned these next three weeks then it gets lost in the minds of congressional members and then it soon fades away in their minds as a priority! IMO!

Uhmmm.....they need it out of committee TOMORROW. They go on break again on May 16, come back for two weeks (one of these weeks has a holiday in it) and are out again for a week.exhaustedandtired/1208 wrote:I hate to say this but when I have commented that the leaders who introduced 589 and took up the cause I meant when congress will be working on debt limit and spending and budgets, Lee and others need to keep 589 up front from the political arena! Re: HR 589 - "It's Time for Movement"
I didn't say two weeks then out for two weeks! They are in session until May 16, then a week out....come back for 2 weeks....out again for a week. See the Congressional calendar thread.

Re: HR 589 - "It's Time for Movement"
FYI: ALL Twitter users! The House Democrats are holding another LIVE twitter chat event tomorow (WED) at 3pm EST. Tweet them @HouseDemocrats and at the end of the tweet use the hashtag #AskDems. Last one they had, I was responded to by 7 different House members. They actually WILL answer.
