BLACK DAYS: Missouri. All recent articles about UI benefits being cut in MO here.
"JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -Thousands of people in Missouri who have been unemployed for more than a year soon will lose their jobless benefits, marking a significant victory for Republican fiscal hawks who are crusading against government spending.
When eligibility ends Saturday, Missouri will become the only state to voluntarily quit a federal stimulus program that offers extended benefits. Michigan, Arkansas and Florida also recently took steps to cut back on money going to the unemployed, although they targeted state benefits instead.
"We have to take a stand and say, `When is enough enough?' and send a message to the federal government, and hopefully shame them into doing the right thing and quit spending money that they don't have," said state Sen. Jim Lembke, a Republican from St. Louis."

Missouri's unemployment rate has remained above 9 percent for nearly two years.
9% and they want to drop people bennies. Im speechless. Once again the unemployed are the lepers.
BLACK DAYS: Missouri’s Final Unemployment Checks Will Be Mailed Saturday
STLToday reports that this weekend will bring the end of unemployment benefits for thousands in Missouri. A bill languishing in the Legislature would have extended benefits for longtime jobless residents to 99 weeks from 79 weeks, with the federal government picking up the estimated $105 million price tag. But fiscal conservatives in the state Senate have blocked the bill from coming to a vote and supporters see little chance of reviving it before benefits are cut off.
The program expired this week and the last checks are slated to go out Saturday.

Funny how these Republicans HAVE helped SPEND ALL THE MONEY or in lots of cases SPENDING ALL THE MONEY. Now they find FISCAL religion but ONLY after they have lined their pockets first. Hypocrites of the FIRST order.

Here is what I don't get, how can they do this when the agreement on the tax cuts was to extend for up to 1 year, 99 weeks whichever came first. How do they get to do this. Once that bill was signed, how do they get to say no, we don't want this. I am not a lawyer, but is this legal? Does this mean no one in Missouri gets to take advantage of the tax extension??? When do WE and the unemployed in Missouri get to say enough is enough!

All I know is if its a state opting out of a gov. funded program that's a state's right. The federal gov. cannot force a state to participate. When the federal gov. wanted states to raise the drinking age some state's refused so to counter state's who took this position the federal gov. threatened to withhold federal highway dollar's that were scheduled to be released.I believe this is why wisconsin and ohio finally complied,to a point.

I live here and it's been reported in the local media that it does NOT affect the state budget. Unbelievable! It's shameful.

Its MANDATORY to be a hypocrite if you are in the GOP. Hypocrite 101 is the first class they take. Actually the bigger hypocrite you are they better status you have among the party.
