Congress Cuts Funding for Planned Parenthood & Americorps

I guess the Republicans in Congress are really adamant about shutting down all government and social services. Over the past week I've been hearing about Congress voting to eliminate funding to Planned Parenthood, Americorps and various other programs.

Now, I realize that the budget needs to be trimmed but cutting off vital services to agencies and programs that are essential to our country is not the way to go. Planned Parenthood and Americorps are two such vital programs that are essential to our country and actually help the American People. I would describe this as cutting off a leg because you have a throbbing pain in your big toe.

To cut these services would do a great disservice to those who depend on them. With Planned Parenthood, Republicans have said that they don't want Federal funding to be used for abortions. However, what they fail to admit to is that Planned Parenthood is already restricted from using those funds to pay for abortions under Title X. Title X was established by Republican President Richard Nixon and prevents Planned Parenthood from using Federal dollars to fund abortions.
