Intentional Community Empty Intentional Community

Post by 503Depressed Tue Mar 29, 2011 2:07 pm

Ok friends. I am looking for a unemployed civil engineer, for helping with an idea for forming an Intentional Community of unemployed people. The community would be entirely off-grid, Eco-friendly and agricultural based. Basically making our own jobs taking care of the community and it's property. I would hope that most residents would be of Christian beliefs, but know that the community can not discriminate.

Power generation would be a mix of Tesla generators (Still researching how to do this), Solar, Wind and possibly Hydro-Electric depending on the resources of the chosen property. Open to other possible ideas that do not involve connecting to the local utilities.

This subject was originally discussed at some length on the Original UFF.

I deeply feel that for any of us to have a future, that instead of waiting for a job handout from Business or our worthless government, we need to create our own and redefine our lives. While in the meantime, reverting to a more sustainable, eco-friendly living situation. Somewhat like a very large farm.

I like the concept, and I remember the discussions about it back then. Talk about going back to the basics. I think as a society we need to take a few steps back and just look at where we are headed. Is this real progressive? I think no In a lot of ways.

Bump....can't believe how quiet this subject is. It used to be highly popular.

Individualism is all well and fine, but if it is shown to be ineffectual, why keep it???

It is a great idea...i remember talking about it on uff1. my husband is always talking about building wind turbines. he is an electrician and knows how to do it. I just wonder if the government would allow a community like this. I personally would love it, but I think they would find a way to try and stop it.

The government would arrest us for some violation that were not aware of, or some buried law no one had heard of in 200 yrs or so.

Its happened before. But in all honesty, I am all for it. Im done with this "grid" we live in/on right now.

Maybe we will see this in 2012, maybe that's what the Mayans were speaking about when they predicted the World we live in would not be the same. Question

There are tons of intentional communities in this country but most of them aren't really off grid. The ones I have seen have the worst of community living and the worst of suburban living. Usually they have people getting in your business but you don't get enough benefit (free healthcare) to make it worthwhile. You still have to buy houses and that sort of thing.

503's idea is different and better but where do you get the money to buy the land to start it?

I've been advised by a local church brother to write an executive summary and submit it for funding and grants. It is in outline form currently as I research to fill in various sections and peruse material on Intentional Communities along with their pros and cons.

Here is one source I've come across: http://www.ic.org/
