Demand your city and all businesses you patronize use E-Verify to check their workers.

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) -- A city that has taken numerous steps to crack down on illegal immigration is now joining a string of Southern California municipalities that are signing up to tap a federal database aimed at tighter scrutiny of employees' immigration status.....

Look for the sign in the window of your local restaurants and businesses. If you don't see it, talk to the manager.

When our new Governor took control in January, his first official act was to abolish E-verify. It passed through the General Assembly with no problem.

Your governor is Lincoln Chaffee right? He is one of those fake independent candidates, which is to say he was a republican until he lost and now he is independent. This is the new way republicans are trying to get elected, "I am not a republican, I am independent..... but still a republican".

Anyway, I find it odd that these republicans are against e-verify. You would think it would be something they support. Obama and most of the Democrats are for it as well, it should be easy to implement but isn't. "I wonder why that is"? He asks rhetorically.

Chaffee came from a very Republican family. His dad was Governor back in the 60's and early 70's then served in the Senate until his death in 1999. He took his dad's Senate seat and never agreed with the GOP agenda while he was there. He was not popular with the Repubs, especially after he voted against going to war with Iraq. When his term was up, he was not endorsed by the GOP and Sheldon Whitehouse beat him.

I don't think he is a fake independent. I always thought he was a "closet" Democrat. With his background, no way would anyone in this state ever believe he was truly Democrat. He has some pretty liberal ideas and so far has been cleaning up the state well after 8 years of a rich GOP Governor who was a former executive at a Fortune 100 company who ran this state right into the ground.

Its shameful that still in this economy companies are hiring Illegals and some states dont get on board with E verify.

There are so many things working against us its disgusting.

I was glad they did away for it and I also supported the DREAM Act. The majority of the people in the state, also agreed. That is the principle this State is based on - Freedom. When the massholes tried to force a religion down people's throats, Roger Williams and a group of settlers founded the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. I have always been proud of that, even if RI is only a shell of what it used to be.

You think hiring Illegal aliens over Citizens is a good thing?

Even with E-verify it does not mean that illegal hiring does not take place. It is a burden on the legitimate citizens of the state who have to pay for it. The system is NOT flawless and citizen's have been turned down for jobs because of errors.
