Tell Congress what you think! What is POPVOX.com?
Hello everyone.
I'm the author of helpthe99ers.blogspot.com - this is my first post here on Unemployed Friends.
Those who have seen my Twitter posts, may have seen me refer to a website called POPVOX - it's a new website created by former Congressional staffers, with the goal of making it easier for constituents (like you and me and the rest of the 99er community) to have our say.
I cannot endorse it highly enough. I think POPVOX has the potential to be a game-changing way to make our voices heard.
With one click, our Representatives can see this:
A national map showing every person who supports the bill. Imagine if every 99er was shown there. Imagine if our families and friends, our supporters and advocates, were all represented on that map.
Do you think Congress would hear us? I do.
Adding your voice to POPVOX is easy: you can simply say "I support" or "I oppose" a bill, or you can add your story to those already there.
I would ask every one here to add their voices: http://pvox.co/bfQp1i
Thank you.

Terrific first post and welcome! Will you be around to help monitor this thread if there are questions?
"You nudged the pie chart in your direction by about one percent! This bill is starting to get attention in POPVOX Nation but it will take more people than that to get traction in Congress. Spread the word about H.R. 589 with the tools below."

Re: Tell Congress what you think! What is POPVOX.com?
As of March 3:
H.R. 589 has 72 co-sponsors, all Democrats.
POPVOX has recorded 179 constituent opinions (147-31 in support) and 3 organizations have endorsed the bill.
It's a good start.
Congress listens to their constituents, so the more people we can get to express their support, the better.

Re: Tell Congress what you think! What is POPVOX.com?
We have added this as a widget on the forum for easy access.
Re: Tell Congress what you think! What is POPVOX.com?
That's great news - you may want to point the widget to this URL to get directly to H.R. 589:

Tell Congress what you think! What is POPVOX.com?
Unemployed-Friends 2.0 recently added the POPVOX feature to our homepage. This tool let's you tell Congress what you think and allows your Senators and Representatives to hear the concerns of their constituents. POPVOX became available in January and has become a popular tool because it simplifies the process for Congressional staffers by putting information about issues, opinions and bills into an easy-to-digest legislative docket.
For more information on POPVOX: http://helpthe99ers.blogspot.com/Congressional staffers say that messages from their constituents are getting lost. When Congress receives some 300 million emails per year, that's not hard to imagine. Add in the phone calls, letters, faxes, Facebook posts, tweets, et al, and it's no wonder that it's impossible to get a conversation going.
Coming from a ten-year background working with a number of advocacy organizations, Rachna Choudhry knew the problem well.

We received a mention in The Huffington Post:
99ERS TRY POPVOX - Not confident sad tales of human suffering get through to congressional staffers, one advocate for extra weeks of unemployment benefits for the superlong-term unemployed is trying www.popvox.com. Check out the testimonial.
