In speaking with Rep. Watt later he put the exchange in perspective and did not seek to call the administration out in any way regarding their overall policy on the poor. “If this was the Bush Administration there wouldn’t even be this discussion.” He also noted that the Obama Administration has done more for poor people than any President in years, including Clinton.
